Encad has improved the performance of its Novajet 880 and 850 wide-format inkjet printers.

Following the introduction of the plug and play advanced ink cartridge assembly, Encad has improved the performance of its Novajet 880 and 850 wide-format inkjet printers, which are intended for the production of graphics for indoor, outdoor and extended life applications All new Novajet 880s and 850s will now feature the new ink cartridges and they can also be ordered for other Novajet printers in the field

Featuring Microburst Technology, the new ink cartridge is said to provide cleaner and easier cartridge installation and operation, and better reliability than hitherto on both NJ880 and NJ850 models.

Microburst improves drop formation for greater print quality and productivity and enables each ink cartridge to be used for up to 1500ml of ink.

The Thermal Monitoring System on both the Novajet 880 and 850 continually monitors the performance of the cartridges and ink flow to ensure print performance is optimised.

Compensation is automatically made for under- and over-performing nozzles and mis-directed drops of ink to ensure that printing can continue without interruption.

However, if a print cartridge becomes de-primed or the quality falls below a certain level, the printer will stop to allow the operator to replace the cartridge.

Managing director Philip Cullimore pointed out that the new ink cartridge also enables users to print on a wide range of substrates for both indoor and outdoor applications.

This includes Kodak's Wide-Format Inkjet Media, which comprises over 25 papers and films, including Instant-Dry photographic papers, clay-coated print papers, backlit film and vinyl and canvas substrates.

The Novajet 880 also features a variable height platen to allow printing on both roll and rigid media (up to 12.7mm thick).

This feature allows direct printing onto materials such as foam board, packaging materials, fine art media and card stock, extending the range of exhibition graphics and point-of-purchase applications that can be produced.

The 880 and 850 can print using multiple ink configurations ranging from 2 by 4 (CMYK) mode for maximum productivity to 1 by 8 for maximum colour gamut and CMYK, for maximum perceived resolution.

The printers feature three quality settings (production, photo and enhanced) and using the different printing models the two printers can achieve speeds from 3.8 to 12.4 sq.m.

per hour.

A new thermal dryer allows for immediate take-up and lamination.

Encad offers a wide selection of inks available for use on the NovaJet 880 and 850 and the eight ink reservoirs and 12 ink lines featured on the printers allow for easy switching between ink types.

For outdoor applications, Encad recommends GO ink.

Claimed to be one of the industry's most durable, UV-resistant pigment-based inks, GO ink produces water resistant, long lasting images with photo-realistic quality for indoor archival material and outdoor use.

GS Plus is a dye-based ink that provides the ability to reproduce the widest range of colours for the highest quality indoor images.

For indoor longevity, GX ink is a dye-based archival ink that offers both colour integrity and lightfastness.

With maximum colour stability and UV durability, GX inks are ideal for indoor graphics that are exposed to sunlight and other light sources.

The new ink cartridge assembly works on all Encad NovaJet 600, 700 and 800 series printers.

However, with the newer models including the Novajet 736, 750, 850 and 880, users gain maximum benefit from the new design.

Each ink cartridge assembly is shipped with negative pressure and packaged in a vacuum -sealed bag to eliminate leaking cartridges during shipment.

Installation of the ink cartridges is clean, quick and easy.

The operator simply needs to plug in the cartridge, wait 60 seconds before removing the protective tab and the ink head is ready to print.

Because the cartridge is shipped with backpressure, no additional priming is required if there is already ink in the lines.
