Encad has made its first volume shipment of the Novajet 1000i printer and expects to deliver 1,000 printers by the end of July "We have received positive reviews from our beta sites and a tremendously favourable response from our customers and channel partners

We have installed 20 production units at customer sites in the last month and the overall feedback is outstanding.

We expect to ship 1,000 printers by the end of July," said Barry Lathan, chief executive officer of Encad.

And Jeff Biggs, managing director of UK-based Colourgen said: "We have placed an initial order of 70 units.

The low cost of consumables combined with the high production speeds make it an attractive and highly profitable wide format printing system for our customers." Encad claimed that it received hundreds of leads for the printer during Drupa and one sales deal meant it was the first sale of integrated systems (to a US commercial printer) for Kodak's graphic communications group, of which Encad is a part.

"We are committed to focusing product development efforts on market-based, guidance to ensure we deliver products that exceed marketplace requirements for costs, quality, and delivery expectations.

To that end, we offer a 100-year guarantee on images using our Quantum pigment Ink on Kodak Rapid Dry Media.

That goes well beyond the guarantee of any other printer on the market today," said Barry Lathan The Novajet 1000i is the first printer jointly developed by Encad and Kodak and made its debut at the February PMA trade show in Las Vegas and has been seen at 30 launch events, trade shows, dealer open houses and demonstration events worldwide, said Encad.

It has a new print head, uses new Encad Quantum Inks and intelligent mask technology for photo-quality prints said the company.

Its rapid evaporation drying system allows for output at speeds up to 220 square feet per hour (20.6 square metres per hour) to make the printer the fastest in its class claimed Encad.
