Encad has been honoured by the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) with a 2004 InterTech Technology Award.

Encad has been honoured by the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) with a 2004 InterTech Technology Award.

The Encad Novajet 1000i printer utilises a rapid evaporation drying system and intelligent mask technology to achieve claimed print speeds of 14 square metres (150 square feet) per hour in its high quality productivity mode.

"Winning the GATF Award further validates our claim that the Novajet 1000i exceeds customer's expectations in terms of superior productivity coupled with wide choice of media", said Philip Cullimore, Encad's vice president of printers and inks.

Encad's proprietary intelligent mask technology incorporates an ink tiling method that lays down ink in a randomised pattern for each colour and print mode.

The dual-component rapid evaporation drying system improves drying efficiency for high speed printing on a wide variety of media, which allows images to be spooled onto the take up reel at full machine speed and finishing operations such as lamination to be performed shortly after said Encad.

Steve Brown, managing director of Engima Digital, recently added the Novajet 1000i printer to the stable of large format printers at its facility in Maidenhead (U.K).

"The Novajet fits into our larger printing operation as a production workhorse.

Even when it's not running at it's highest speed, it's around three to four times faster than any other dye-based printer we have," said Brown.

Developed and manufactured by Kodak for the Novajet 1000i, quantum pigmented ink uses 10 patented technologies to improve jetting reliability and increased colour gamut without impacting durability.

"One of the major benefits that goes hand in hand with the speed and productivity is the quality of the QI pigment ink that Encad has introduced for the Novajet 1000i," said Ralf Wilkowski, owner of Sign It LLC.

"There is a noticeable increase in colour gamut, giving more strength than the pigment inks we have been used to on some previous printers.

This increase in colour gamut alone is of significant value to the POS work produced for our customers," he added.

The Intertech Lucite Star will be formally presented to Encad at a gala banquet to be held during the PIA and GATF administrative meetings November 11-14.
