Edale will be displaying its shaftless Sigma narrow web flexo packaging press, at Drupa 2004 (May 6-19).

Edale will be displaying its shaftless Sigma narrow web flexo packaging press, at Drupa 2004 (May 6-19), where it will be producing a UV flexo shrink sleeve application developed for container decoration.

Edale claims the Sigma incorporates some of the latest in flexo technology is employed on the press and it makes extensive use of independent servo drives for accuracy and flexibility.

The company also says that the Sigma is able to convert a wide range of substrates up to 600 microns.

It is available in a range of options with high powered air dryers and explosion proof set up for use with solvent inks.

It also offers water-cooled UV lamp heads, a chill roller system and a combination of UV, IR, air and gas dryer solutions.

It is available for webs of 330mm-620mm.

"The Sigma's innovative design has universal appeal," said Bernhard Grob, Edale's joint managing director.

"Wide web packaging printers are increasing their production output through shorter runs while sheet fed carton printers are beginning to recognise the benefits of printing and finishing cartons in one operation on one machine," he added.

Edale believes web offset printers are moving towards narrow web flexo because of the lower investment costs and label printers are diversifying into packaging printing in order to maximise profits.

The Sigma joins the company's existing portfolio of machinery, including the Alpha compact press and the Beta modular press.

The Edale stand at Drupa is 16A46-8.
