UK narrow web flexo press manufacturer Edale has secured its first order in South Africa.

UK narrow web flexo press manufacturer Edale has secured its first order in South Africa Partnered with Printing Products Edale is to install an Alpha press for Label Techniques in Cape Town

Label Techniques serves a diverse client base within the food and beverage industry that require high quality print often with short run requirements.

The Alpha it has chosen is a five colour model with four infra-red drying units and one UV unit, together with a number of options that are possible to be retro fitted should its needs change.

Label Techniques offers personalised tailor made products and services.

Edale claimed that the Alpha could convert a wide range of label, packaging and ticketing substrates from 50 microns - 350 microns and up to a 330mm web width.

Its compact design and claimed quick job change makes it suitable for short run lengths.

Floors Coetzee of Printing Products said he is confident about the demand for flexographic printing presses in South Africa.

"The flexo industry has really picked up in the last three years, for instance we sold three flexo presses in one year.

Whereas before the real flexo markets used to only be in Durban and Johannesburg, six or more presses have now come into Cape Town alone," he commented.

That was showing the nation-wide trend to make use of the advantages flexo offered, he believed.

Coetzee continued: "The main players in wide web are also looking into narrow web now for shorter runs and this is where we come in." Such downloading of one-colour to five-colour work from larger more expensive presses had become a popular cost cutting exercise in the industry.

Coetzee said he would be available at the Labels Africa Exhibition in November (stand number 22), to provide information on Edale's flexographic range from the Alpha to the shaftless servo driven Sigma.

The Sigma is claimed to be capable of converting a range of substrates from 12 microns - 700 microns with a web width up to 650mm.

Label Techniques would also be offering an open-house event for anyone to view the Alpha press.

Visits could be arranged through Floors Coetzee at any time before, during or after the exhibition.
