Automation and rationalisation are at the forefront in today's investment decisions, according to UK press manufacturer Edale The company will be presenting a range of its presses and added value machine systems at Labelexpo 2005

What the company described as the most successful compact five-colour UV press, the Flexopress, will be demonstrated producing a high quality wine label with cold foiling, using transparent material.

The same machine also recently produced a security ticket application, with incorporated conventional numbering boxes, which demonstrates the flexibility and universal use of the press.

A high quality label with de-relam and cold foiling on PP material will be demonstrated on a modular Flexopress.

The same Beta can be configured as a combination press for innovative label applications - for instance, for multi-layer and booklet labels - a wide range of ticket applications including RFID, as well as small size folding cartons.

In the meantime, 10 Sigma's in-web width up to 720mm and claimed production speed of up to 240 metres per minute are in use world-wide for the production of shrink sleeves, medical and food packaging, mobile phone top-up cards, paper cups, folding cartons and high volume labels.

Each Sigma configuration is specified precisely to the individual applications to guarantee usage of the total press capabilities most of the time and therefore to guarantee optimum return on investment by avoiding over specification and under usage of highly priced modules.

The new shaftless Lambda is a servo-driven system that is said to offer maximum flexibility for smart labels and a range of multi-layer applications, for customers whose key know-how is in converting, materials and adhesives, for instance.

The press is said to enable converters to design their own optimum machine configuration without investing in additional and unnecessary machine design and production costs.

The modules can be lifted out and placed in a different location.

Besides a range of common converting, unwind, rewind, lamination, de/relam modules, flexo, screen and digital print units, cold and hot foiling, there is also the possibility to incorporate non-Edale modules, such as RFID, hot melt, inserting, verification.
