EFI will present key products from its MIS portfolio at MIS 2005 - stand 9.

EFI will present key products from its MIS portfolio at MIS 2005 - stand 9 They will include Logic SQL, Hagen OA and Printsmith, along with Proteus and Prograph, its MIS packages for the publishing sector

Alongside its range of MIS products, EFI will also exhibit two of its workflows - Oneflow and Digital Storefront.

The company said that visitors to its stand will benefit from a show promotion that will offer price reductions on certain MIS products on show, as well as having the chance to win an Apple iPod.

"Printers are looking for innovative solutions that will increase production efficiencies, maximise profits and enable them to stay on the competitive edge.

EFI is by far the largest supplier of print MIS systems in the world and offers the widest range of MIS products to suit printers of all sizes and complexity," commented Bob Spiers, EFI's European sales director for commercial print systems.

He continued: "Be it digital, sheet-fed or web-printing, EFI has a business and production management solution that can streamline print operations, provide better visibility into costs and finances and increase profitability.

As such, MIS 2005 will be an important arena for us to demonstrate how the implementation of new tools and processes can help achieve this." Printsmith automates all the detailed aspects of the smaller print business, including estimating, production and accounting, for instance, to save time and resources.

Hagen OA integrates an accounting package with applications for job management, purchasing, receiving and fulfilment, configured to suit individual printing operations.

Prograph is claimed to help publishing and catalogue printers compare manufacturing processes to available equipment and resources, giving them the ability to prepare for discrepancies or contingencies long before they occur.

It provides planning, scheduling and tracking capabilities for the high-volume printer with one or more facilities in its enterprise - from multi-versioned publications to retail inserts to telephone directories, said EFI.

Proteus, with a direct link to Prograph, is a software tool that helps publishers accurately determine publication make-up and layout.

It is said to allow editors, art directors, sales managers, production managers, printers, and other publishing professionals to collaborate on the assembly and production of a publication commented EFI.

Proteus serves as the hub of a multi-department publishing operation, giving each department the ability to independently perform its role in producing an issue while working within a common software environment on a centralised file, added the company.

LogicSQL is said to combine integration of the print production process with a set of data collection tools, designed for medium to large printing operations with a mix of web, sheet-fed, or specialty processes.

EFI said the product provides a rapid path to full-scale automation, allowing users to quickly step up to automation.

Applications cover every business function, from estimating to billing, order entry to shipping, purchasing, inventory control, finished goods, accounting and more.

EFI said that the product has been proven over three decades by more than 10,000 users worldwide.

The company will also be showing a number of add on modules.

amomgst which will be the Auto-Count direct machine interface (DMI) for sheet-fed presses and finishing equipment.

Using patented DMI technology, Auto-Count is claimed to automatically pull production data directly from every machine in the print plant, in real time.

It is also said to increase efficiency by eliminating over-runs, under-runs and re-runs by calculating exactly what each press and finishing machine is doing and how much it has produced, adeed EFI.

Printflow allows printers to schedule, synchronise and optimise jobs throughout the manufacturing operation by automatically identifying the optimal path for each job based on the available resources, current workload and delivery schedules for all jobs said the company.

It is a system for controlling and scheduling all equipment, old and new and co-ordinating the entire printing process from inception to delivery.

It is said to also provide complete visibility of the potential impact of changes to the printing schedule such as adding new jobs, accelerating a delivery request, temporarily losing a work centre, or adding a shift.

The latest version of Printflows' GATF technology features what EFI considers to be major improvements, including the way data is displayed and organised in the Gantt chart.

The tool can now be customised - for instance, cost centres can be re-arranged, re-sized, filtered and coloured individually, multiple layouts can be saved and filters can be applied to focus on a single job or form.

Workflow solutions is a PDF-based pre-press workflow that is said to be designed for the digital and offset production environments, providing a software interface that incorporates pre-flight, trapping, imposition, screening and a RIP-once-output-many (ROOM) architecture for almost all computer-to-plate, computer-to-film, direct imaging or digital printing environments said EFI.
