EFI has launched enhancements to its Designer Edition proofing software for the design market and EFI Photo Edition print, proof and colour management software.

EFI has launched enhancements to its Designer Edition proofing software for the design market and EFI Photo Edition print, proof and colour management software.

Based on EFI's Best technology, Designer Edition and Photo Edition are also now available in XXL versions to drive wide format printers up to 60 inches wide, it is claimed.

Focused on what is claimed to be easy, high-quality proofing and printing with minimal setup time, both products integrate several new features, increasing efficiency by enabling the printing of accurate proofs and full colour photographs.

One of the first users of the new software, graphic designer Peter Friemelt, from Munich (Germany), said: "The new Designer Edition 4.2 immediately and significantly improved my productivity - workflow is simplified by the virtual printer functions and the new Photo Print Mode, which eliminates the need for an additional solution to handle RGB data.

Also, I've never seen a proofing product render spot colours so accurately.

The backup and restore function for several sets of user settings makes my everyday work appreciably easier as well." EFI said the product enhancements include a variety of printing modes from which to choose, a proof mode for pre-press, photo print mode for RGB workflow and a mono mode for conversion from colour.

There is TIFF export for exchanging colour managed data with customers and other applications and a free of charge Ugra/FOGRA Media strip with Designer Edition and Photo Edition 4.2.

The Ugra/FOGRA Media strip can be used as a digital control aid to evaluate the effect of imaging in CMYK mode and other pre-press work.

In addition, colour management settings can be saved, that are claimed to streamline workflow by eliminating repetitive input and the horizontal and vertical position of the job on the sheet can be specified for centre or left-right alignment.

A black point compensation feature is said to improve shadow details in black, to further advance output quality, added the company.

Stefan Spiegel, the senior product marketing manager for EFI, commented: "Every EFI product is designed to deliver superior value to our customers.

With the Designer Edition and Photo Edition enhancements, even the most demanding graphic artists, designers and professional printers will be better equipped for success.

Designer Edition and Photo Edition are robust yet cost-effective and are intended to optimise virtually any workflow." Both products are now available, shipping as hybrid, running on Mac OS X as well as on Windows.

They are being sold through certified EFI dealers and distributors.
