EFI is debuting the integration of its Printersite Exchange web-to-print software with its Logic SQL print management system at Print 05.

EFI is debuting the integration of its Printersite Exchange web-to-print software with its Logic SQL print management system at Print 05 The integration, which is provided by a new MIS Connector in Printersite Exchange, lets printer's customers submit jobs from the popular web application and then enables the printing plant to manage the planning, production, scheduling, invoicing and accounting of those jobs from within the Logic MIS environment

Now, business management information that would normally be entered in to a print MIS or accounting system is captured automatically upstream, at the order entry point, through customer input to the website provided by Printersite Exchange, eliminating time-consuming data entry in to the MIS, along with the possibility of costly errors, said EFI.

On the back end, production planning and scheduling, invoicing, accounting and job management takes place in the printer's familiar EFI MIS system The addition of MIS integration to Printersite Exchange's existing workflow integration (which provides the ability for content and JDF-based job tickets to flow automatically in to production), results in incremental, immediately recognisable cost-saving by eliminating estimating for many jobs, by removing re-keying in to business management systems and by streamlining content and commerce functions, said the company.

Printersite Exchange captures job instructions and customer order details electronically via the on-line interface.

Once the order is submitted, the data goes directly in to Logic SQL.

Printers get the benefits of customer-supplied data entering the MIS system, but via a monitored 'on ramp' they control.

Once the job enters the production workflow at the printing plant, printers can configure how much visibility they want to give customers in to their workflow.

Status codes can be filtered or mapped to show a subset of all the potential status changes that can happen within the Print MIS system.

The software enables printers to evolve the delivery of order status from a reactive approach (customer calls the print facility) to a proactive approach (customer configures e-mail alerts, and web enabled job tracking.

Chuck Gehman, EFI's director of product marketing, said: "Printersite Exchange has two primary missions - first, to make it easier for customers to do business with printers via the web and second, to streamline business and production tasks in the printing operation.

The combination of these two very popular systems, with the integration of the MIS Connector, achieves both of those goals and is really more than the sum of the parts.

The result is happier customers and more profitable jobs." The integration of Printersite Exchange and Logic has been beta tested over the past year.

The functions will be available to all Logic customers in the fourth quarter of this year.

Integration with Hagen OA and PSI will be available in the first quarter of next year.
