EFI's Colorproof XF proofing product has, for the second consecutive year since its launch, demonstrated superior ICC-based colour management strength at the fifth annual Digital Proofing Forum.

EFI's Colorproof XF proofing product has, for the second consecutive year since its launch, demonstrated superior ICC-based colour management strength at the fifth annual Digital Proofing Forum The forum is staged by the German Printing and Media Industries Federation (BVDM) and the European Colour Initiative (ECI) in Stuttgart (Germany)

The result of EFI's development knowledge and resources, combined with the proofing expertise behind Best technology, Colorproof XF is the scalable and versatile client and server-based proofing software that turns inkjet and laser printers in to proofing devices, said the company.

The newly-launched Colorproof XF Version 2.6 is said to be suitable for virtually anyone needing absolute control over digital colour.

The market for the product encompasses digital, commercial and hybrid printers, pre-press service providers, newspaper and packaging printers, publishers, creative agencies and photographers.

The Digital Proofing Forum featured 10 vendors and 17 proofing configurations.

EFI participated with three systems composed of Colorproof XF and Canon Image Prograf 6400PG, Epson Stylus Pro 4800 and HP Designjet 90 respectively.

EFI Colorproof XF consistently outperformed competitors in all areas of the proofing systems tests.

The first assignment required matching a press sheet with a digital proof, with participants given a reference printout, measurement data and an ICC profile.

Colorproof XF achieved a very high level of colour consistency based on measurement evaluation, said EFI.

The colour differences between proof and print was extremely low, and Colorproof XF produced the lowest peak of all participants - 1.7 and 916;E units, at which point the variations are imperceptible to the human eye.

The Colorproof XF systems also achieved the best paper white simulation.

For the second test, participants had to match the proof with a second press sheet, which had been produced on the same production press by simply changing the paper.

Evaluation was based on visual judgement, as well as on measurement values.

Again, Colorproof XF bested competitors by achieving top results with one of the lowest average and peak and 916;E as well as paper white simulation.

The ICC profile specification, developed by the International Colour Consortium, provides a cross-platform device profile format to translate colour data created on one device in to another device's native colour space.

The acceptance of the ICC format allows flexibility and assures both users and vendors that images will retain colour fidelity when moved between operating systems and applications, added EFI.

Stefan Spiegel, senior product marketing manager at EFI, said: "EFI is dedicated to innovation and industry standards, such as the ICC profile specification, and we continually provide greater value for our customers as they compete in a dynamic market with increasing demands.

We appreciate the opportunity to show the strength of our systems in direct comparison with our competitors at the industry's leading events." He continued: "Our winning performance at Stuttgart follows up our superior performance at the IPA Proofing Round-Up.

We're proud to demonstrate Colorproof XF's functions, stability and performance - all of which make it a sophisticated proofing system imperative for any environment where colour matters.".
