EFI debuted an upgrade to the Printsmith Site job submission and e-commerce add-on module to Printsmith at Graph Expo.

EFI debuted an upgrade to the Printsmith Site job submission and e-commerce add-on module to Printsmith at Graph Expo Printsmith is a print management information system for print and copy shops and Printsmith Site is claimed to enable printers to offer on-line products and services with complete integration in to the Printsmith system for faster job turn-around and a more streamlined workflow, from the ordering user's desktop through to production

Available in November, version 2.5 of Printsmith Site has a redesigned user interface that is similar to EFI's Digital Storefront product, and it adds personalisation technology from XMPie.

The new user interface is the result of direct feedback from users of the Printsmith Site application, which has been available for more than four years, said EFI.

Ad-hoc file uploads, as well as the File-Print PDF conversion and job submission workflow (featuring EFI's Printmessenger drivers), have been streamlined.

Shopping, ordering and check-out, as well as request for quote (RFQ) workflows, have all been improved to conform to current best-practices for business-to-consumer e-commerce web sites, added the company.

Those features are claimed to make Printsmith Site easy for customers who have no technical knowledge of printing.

Printsmith Site has always included a simple, proprietary tool, called Design Composer, for the creation of customisable items, such as business cards and letterheads.

With the addition of XMPie, the personalisation capabilities of Printsmith Site are claimed to be more sophisticated and the types of products that can be supported are extended to far more visually rich applications, including direct mail pieces, said EFI.

Printsmith Site VDP licensees will receive a special version of XMPie's uDirect plug-in for Adobe InDesign, specifically for use with the application.

The Printsmith Site and XMPie combination lets users customise, proof and approve XMPie documents on the web, then produce them in the print shop, added the company.

Chuck Gehman, director of product marketing at EFIm said: "Printsmith Site continues to provide a valuable tool for many printing companies, extending their counter to the internet.

The new version makes the experience easier for the printer's customers and helps to project a more professional image for the printing company because of the new user interface.

The addition of the XMPie technology to Printsmith Site creates an opportunity for small printers to add web-to-print, VDP on the web in an affordable and accessible way." Larry Furlong, franchise owner of Alphagraphics Phoenix, which has been a Printsmith user for more than five years, said: "EFI is listening to the users of its systems and fulfilling its promises for Printsmith Site.

This new version will be welcomed by our customers and by our own staff.

We're really excited about the new user interface and being able to extend personalised products on the web using the new XMPie integration.".
