EFI has launched Sendme Version 3.5, its product for digital colour document capture, edit and distribution.

Said to specifically address the needs of high-volume environments, Sendme is claimed to be suitable for financial services, insurance, healthcare, higher education and legal services.

According to EFI, Sendme has achieved annual double-digit unit growth since its introduction in 2003 and it has established itself as the market leader.

Sendme integrates technology in scanning, workflow and optical character recognition (OCR) using Omnipage 15 from Nuance Communications, with Microsoft Office for a 'scan to Microsoft Word' capability with page layout retention.

In addition, nearly 65 connectivity modules, developed and fully supported by EFI, are included to enable inter-operability with third-party document management, cost recovery and fax-imaging software packages, such as Documentum Server, Documentum AX5, Captaris Rightfax, Microsoft Sharepoint and EFI Netconnect, added the company.

The flexibility to print directly from a Blackberry, cell phone or other mobile device - even an iPod - to an MFP (multi-function peripheral) is another new capability.

Sendme is also available from Ikon Office Solutions, branded as Docsend.

Greg Greenwood, the manager of the publication centre at San Joaquin Delta Community College, commented: "After a lot of research, we chose Docsend and everyone who uses it, loves the document capture and distribution features, particularly the archiving and retrieval functions and the synchronisation with our other EFI systems." He added: "We've realised great efficiencies and cost savings.

The devices are constantly in use and in such high demand that we're going to have to order more." San Joaquin Delta Community College District, in Stockton, California (USA) educates 20,000 students and has deployed 25 Docsend devices, integrated with EFI Fiery colour digital print servers and Digital Storefront, EFI's web-to-print platform.
