Colour Proofing System's Strong Test Performances

An EFI product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Jun 15, 2007

The IPA Color Proofing Roundup saw EFI's Colorproof XF proofing and large-format production system turn in an outstanding performance, according to the company.

The fifth annual performance evaluation judged by the IPA, (a community of pre-media, creative, corporate, print publishing, packaging and in-plant specialists) drew 22 competing hardcopy proofing systems.

EFI said that Colorproof XF performed strongly amongst the participating proofing systems, many of which are priced at three times that of Colorproof XF.

This year the IPA adopted a pass or fail grade policy, or a number-based judgement in six tests to define the industry's best, including, proofing the testform (or proofing to numbers), remote proofing, visual evaluation of the testform, spot colour and n-channel.

The EFI system passed in all categories in which the company participated.

In the proofing to numbers category, the IPA tested for adherence to current SWOP (Specifications for Web Offset Publications) and GRACoL (General Requirements for Applications in Commercial Offset Lithography) industry standards and Colorproof XF passed those tests as well.

EFI's compliance with GRACoL, ICC, PDF and other open standards ensures that Colorproof XF integrates in to customers' overall print shop operations, including offset and digital hybrid production.

Colorproof XF driving the HP Z3100 large format printer with the embedded spectrophotometer passed the pass and fail test in the proofing to numbers category and produced optimal results in the spot colour visual test.

The embedded spectrophotometer allows a fully-automated linearisation and profiling process, as well as the colour verification based on a control strip, added EFI.

Colorproof XF turns the HP Z3100 in to a printer with automation.

HP has announced that Colorproof XF has been tested and certified by its new RIP certification initiative for the HP Designjet Z6100 printer series.

Colorproof XF also supports the HP Designjet Z2100 large format printer.

The newest version of EFI Colorproof XF, winner of the 2007 BERTL's best wide format pre-press proofing system award is said to be designed for print and pre-press operations, publishers and creative personnel and EFI has also just launched Colorproof XF for Flexo, which includes new features for the packaging industry.

Stefan Spiegel, general manager of EFI Graphic Arts Solutions, said: "Our strong performance at this year's Color Proofing Roundup is another terrific industry affirmation for Colorproof XF.

But we are even more proud of the accolades we receive from our customers as they experience the powerful impact of Colorproof XF integrated in to their overall workflows, enabling greater business success.".
