Roll-to-Roll UV Printer Produces
1,080dpi Images
The first Vutek QS3200r roll-to-roll UV printer is to be installed by Niggemeyer Bildproduktion after a two-year wait for EFI to introduce high speed roll-to-roll UV machine.
EFI's new high-speed printer is said to produce images up to 3.2 metres (10.5 feet) wide at 1,080 dots per inch (dpi) with high definition print (HDP) technology, at a claimed rate of up to 171.9 square metres per hour (1,850 square feet per hour) Roland Niggemeyer, president of Niggemeyer Bildproduktion travelled 8,000km to Orlando, Florida (USA) to see the Vutek QS3200r, where he made the instant decision to buy the printer, according to EFI

He commented: "I have been waiting two years for EFI to introduce a high speed roll-to-roll UV machine that matches the superior image quality for which the rest of its Vutek QS family of superwide format printers is renowned.
I had tried roll-to-roll UV machines from two other manufacturers but in both cases the quality simply did not match the level I was looking for.
And he continued to explain: "We have bought and owned eight Vutekk printers in total and currently have six in operation, so I am very familiar with the level of quality and service that I can expect from EFI and was therefore quite certain that I wanted to buy the machine before I had even seen it! The tests and demonstrations that I saw carried out on the machine in Florida more than satisfied me that it is exactly what we have been waiting for and we are very excited to be taking delivery of it, along with an EFI Fiery XF RIP, this week." Niggemeyer explained that he sees the Vutek QS3200r bridging the gap between the Vutek solvent and dye-sublimation machines that he already runs, as it being capable of printing jobs from the PV200 and the Fabrivu, giving him greater flexibility on the production floor and helping to relieve bottlenecks.

The new printer will also allow him to print jobs directly to textile, cutting out the dye-sublimation process and accelerating textile printing without any loss of print quality.
He added that the UV inks, developed for the QS3200r, will allow his company to now print on to porous material that would previously have absorbed inks from other processes, causing loss of colour.
The QS3200r ink sits on the surface of the substrate, ensuring that the colours remain much more vibrant, added EFI.
Niggemeyer said that his company is increasingly asked to produce creative applications for its customers that involve printing on to elastic substrates, which need to be bent, stretched and wrapped around other objects.
With solvent-based ink this was always a problem, as the ink would crack if it was bent or stretched, ruling out the Vutek PV200, or the PV320 for that type of job.
The QS3200r inks are said to be suitable for that type of application with their durability, vibrancy and the 100 per cent elongation allowing them to be stretched up to two times their usual mass without loss of visual impact.
