In a move to bring all its finishing in-house, Empress Litho has installed two Heidelberg CD102-6 six-colour presses.

The investment also includes an ST300 saddlestitcher, a Polar 115ED guillotine and two folders - a KD78 combination and a TD78 buckle.

In preparation, partners Mick Preston and David May doubled the size of their premsises to over 9000 square feet.

Meanwhile, the installation of a range of mailroom equipment from WRH marketing UK has significantly increased the Yorkshire Post's production capacity and efficiency.

The equipment includes a Tolerans Streamliner 2000 stitcher, a Ferag SNT-U trimming drum and an impact extraction system.

Operations director Stuart Remmer tells In Print that the ability to stitch and trim in-house has made huge difference to the company's bottom line.

The Yorkshire Post was previously outsourcing its finishing work and the freight handling charges were often more than the cost to finish the product itself.

The company is now using its switching stations to direct all products onto the in-line finishing system, removing the need for external contract finishers, The Yorkshire Post is currently stitching and trimming more than 250,000 copies per week, including a lifestyle weekend magazine and a review guide for its flagship publication.
