Reprostudio Heku began using the Adobe PDF format in the early 1990s.

A long-time user of Enfocus technology, the company today has installed 60 site licenses of Enfocus Pitstop Professional, as well as Pitstop Server.

Reprostudio Heku is using Pitstop to streamline the processing of a high volume of PDF files within its six different repro companies, as well as several off-site locations.

Some of the PDF files that Reprostudio Heku processes are generated in-house but the majority come from a variety of outside sources and are often incorrectly formatted or contain mistakes.

Petri Helin, the chief information officer at Reprostudio Heku, explained: "We constantly receive files from different sources.

All of these files have to be checked, because often the original file has spot-colours or other errors.

For example, a lot of material comes from advertising agencies in the original layout program format, which we finalise and convert in to PDF format.

It is essential that we can quickly and reliably check all incoming PDF files." He continued: "We mostly use Pitstop Professional on our workstations.

Verifying files on the workstation is very fast and easy." Functioning as an Adobe Acrobat plug-in, Pitstop is claimed to verify critical PDF attributes and automatically corrects over 100 of the most common errors encountered in PDF files.

Many of Reprostudio Heku's continuing jobs are advertising campaigns that continue over long periods of time.

Pitstop's preflighting capability is invaluable for ensuring that the file information is accurate and up-to-date.

"The person who is working on this kind of project might, at some point, change.

If the job has some kind of typical problem, the new person might not have been informed about it.

That's when we really depend on Pitstop's preflighting capability," said Helin.

Enfocus's Certified PDF technology embeds the PDF Profile and preflight report in the file, displaying immediate visual feedback that reveals whether or not the file complies with Reprostudio Heku's selected PDF quality specifications.

A Certified PDF file tracks all edits and allows for version comparison and roll back, said Enfocus.

Petri Helin reported that Pitstop Professional PDF provides key complementary benefits when used with Adobe Acrobat Professional 7, as well as some distinct advantages.

He added: "Enfocus Certified PDF contains the most complete list of real-world preflight checks available today for PDF preflighting.

In addition, over 60 per cent of the problems detected during preflight can be corrected automatically.

Hyperlinks in the preflight report take you directly to each error or warning that is noted in the preflight report.

The Pitstop Inspector is available for a detailed inspection of the invalid object and enables you to make an immediate correction.

It really is an invaluable tool for advanced PDF preflighting and unmatched in its capabilities." Enfocus added that Pitstop Professional enables Reprostudio Heku to transmit error-free PDF files to scores of printing houses and to hundreds of different magazines.
