Enfocus Integrates Imposition Software In Workflow

The company has signed a letter of intent with Ultimate, a developer of imposition software.

The first yield of the partnership will be integration of Ultimate's latest version of Impostrip Ondemand Digital, which was launched at Ipex 2006, with Enfocus's Pitstop Automate.

Enfocus said that the development will take automation one step further by moving imposition higher upstream in the workflow.

Imposition is the latest third-party component in a list of mainstream software, including virtual and certified proofing, as well as colour optimisation and print standard certification, that will be integrated with Enfocus Pitstop Automate.

Pitstop Automate is a task-based production automation tool that is said to allow design studios, advertising agencies, printers and publishers to increase productivity and output consistency by introducing automation at an affordable price.

Routing capabilities enable it to guide files through the production process, avoiding the need for human intervention, claimed Enfocus.

Enfocus and Ultimate will be previewing the integrated software for the first time at the On Demand Exposition to be held in Philadelphia (USA) next month.

Ultimate's executive vice president, Joanne David, said: "We know from talking to our customers that they have already been using our technology and that of Enfocus in tandem for some time.

By forging a more formal strategic partnership we will be able to offer them a higher level of automation through the integration of our technologies, making the process even easier and more seamless for the user." Patrick van Dam, Enfocus's executive vice president for worldwide sales and marketing, commented: "In introducing Pitstop Automate, our mission has been to provide professionals at all stages in the publishing supply chain with easy-to-use, low-cost automation tools at entry level that help them to streamline production.

Pitstop Automate was designed to be easy to use and to integrate with a number of third party applications.

By working with our partners and combining their best of breed products with our own, we can offer our customer base an even more compelling suite of automation tools, all accessible within the same simple and familiar user interface." Impostrip Ondemand Digital 5.0 is claimed to be the first imposition program to feature dynamic imposition, allowing the use of a hot folder and templates independent of page size.

That enables the user to drop A4, letter, and other size pages in to the same hot folder, without the need for different templates for each job.

Jobs of different page quantities can also be dropped in, and the job will be automatically imposed.

The workflow can be manual or automatic, as required by the user.
