Encore Machinery has installed the first Shoei folder with a pneumatic gate folding unit at Aylesbury Print Finishing.

Encore Machinery has installed the first Shoei folder with a pneumatic gate folding unit at Aylesbury Print Finishing.

It replaces an old style gate fold, which operates with a solenoid and has virtually doubled the trade finisher's productivity from 8,000 to 16,000 sheets an hour claimed Encore.

Mike Biggs, the managing director, of Encore Machinery, said: "This pneumatic device is the fastest gate fold unit on the market today." The Shoei SRK74 replaces a previous Shoei folder at Aylesbury Print Finishing.

"We ran it alongside a Stahl and an MBO for the last 10 years.

When we decided to replace it, we wanted a machine with a continuous feed, which the previous one didn't have.

The new gate fold unit was an added bonus," said Andy Green, bindery manager at Aylesbury Print Finishing.

"We did look at other makes but the Shoei folders are really good work horses.

We hammered the first one but it gave us very good service and reliability.

On a cost and performance basis, Shoei is much better value and equally as good as other makes, which are far more expensive.

Now that we have the continuous feed and the new gate fold unit, it's made a huge difference to our productivity.

Jobs are just flying through it," he added.
