Jones the Printers in Anglesey (UK) has added a Shoei SRT 56/6/4/KTT folder with a round pile feeder from Encore Machinery to its range of finishing equipment "We needed to increase our folding capacity with a highly productive folder with a quick make ready because the Stahl and two H and H folders could not cope with the volume," said Martin Jones, whose grandfather started the business 100 years ago

B2 Folder Enables Complex Jobs Growth
Priory Press, commercial printers in Dunstable, has traded in its old folder for a new MB CAS 52 computer-controlled B2 folder from Encore Machinery.
Jones chose Shoei, having looked at both Stahl and MBO.
"We do a lot of homework before we buy a new piece of equipment and always ensure that it suits the type of work we already have, rather than finding work for it.
When you buy a Shoei it comes with all the 'bells and whistles' like the slitter and the perfing wheel as standard, so you don't have to pay for any extras," said Jones.

Folder Doubles Finisher's Productivity
Encore Machinery has installed the first Shoei folder with a pneumatic gate folding unit at Aylesbury Print Finishing.
"The quality of build surpasses anything else on the market and I couldn't find anything else that could beat it for value for money.
Encore installed the machine with a compact VPS delivery system.
Unlike the normal shingle delivery, it goes through an extra set of rollers, which takes out the air and delivers the folded sections in a vertical position.
This is much better for packing in boxes or if there is another process, like saddle stitching," he explained.
To optimise its productivity, the folder is configured with a round pile continuous feeder with six plates in the first unit, four plates in the second unit and a knife unit to push the folded sections.
Jones pointed out: "I chose the knife configuration because it is more compact and gives us extra versatility.
It is quicker to set up and runs 20 per cent to 30 per cent faster with a knife at the end." Longer runs of up to 15,000, benefit from the round pile continuous feeder because the Shoei is 30 per cent faster than the other two folders combined, he added.
"We are currently running a 115gsm job on the Shoei at 16,000 sheets per hour (sph), which can only be run on the H and H at 8,000sph.
We also tend to use it for more complicated folds because the technology is newer and consequently, the quality of the fold is better," he commented.
He added that there were always some concerns in dealing with a young company but Encore came well recommended and he knew that they have many years experience in selling and servicing Shoei's.
He hadn't been able to fault the company and it had delivered on all its promises.
