B2 Folder Enables Complex Jobs Growth
Priory Press, commercial printers in Dunstable, has traded in its old folder for a new MB CAS 52 computer-controlled B2 folder from Encore Machinery.
Brian Hough, Printoff's managing director, said: "The Shoei is an addition to our two Stahl folders.
Our education work is very seasonal.
During four months of the year we have to employ temporary staff, who operate the folder round the clock.
The sections are bound on our Muller binding line.
We wanted an automated folder because it makes it much quicker and easier to train temporary, less skilled finishing operators." He added: "In addition, we specified pallet loading because our six-colour Roland press and eight-colour Roland perfector print directly on to pallets.
We can move the pallets directly on to the folding machine, thereby saving a lot of time.
It is better for the workforce because it eliminates manual lifting, which in this age of stringent health and safety regulations, is becoming increasing important." He said that Encore was the only company that could supply a computerised B2 folder with pallet loading.
Printoff went to Encore's showroom in Dunstable for a demonstration and ran some tests for before the order was placed.
Hough explained: "We felt confident because the staff at Encore is very knowledgeable and helpful.
In fact, it has been one of the best purchasing decisions we have made.
Make-ready and down time are virtually eliminated.
It's almost foolproof, which means that when we take on temporary staff they can be up and running with minimal training.
All they have to do is select the fold type or the program number if we want to re-run a previous job, which has been stored in the memory, load up and the machine does all the settings automatically.".
