The company, which was previously Eden Litho until it was bought by Howitt last September and rebranded Howitt-Digital, specialises in four colour, highly personalised digitally printed direct mail with variable printing.

"We'd been using a stand alone creaser and folder but when we saw the Pit Stop with the on-line MB folder, we realised how much quicker it would be to do it in one process," said Chris Mallinson, a director of Howitt-Digital.

He added: "Added to this, the Pit Stop is a much heavier duty creaser than the machine we were using.

It creases at 8,000sph, which is the fastest on the market.

It handles sheet sizes up to B2, which means that we can not only crease and fold work printed on our five Xerox digital printers but also the waterless litho printed jobs.

Now we can do all the creasing in-house, whereas previously we had to put large sheets out to the trade." The Pit Stop produces a platen crease on a range of stock from 80gsm to 600gsm and on sheet sizes from 15cm x 21cm to 50cm x 85cm It uses separate pumps for suction and blow, which contribute to its high speed.

An MB 35 folder with two or four plates can be supplied on-line or retro-fitted, said Encore.

Mallinson commented: "We can easily crease and fold up to 25,000 sheets a day ready for insertion in to envelopes, which is significantly more productive than before.

The heavy duty creaser with the on-line folding configuration is a godsend in a busy company.

It will give us the capacity to handle the work produced on the Xerox Igen press, which is being installed as soon as we move to our larger premises.".
