McGowan's Print, Ireland's largest digital printers, has installed the first high speed Pit Stop digital creaser with on-line MB 38 B3 format, heavy duty folder.

The Pit Stop creaser has been installed to finish work produced on two Indigo presses and a Xeikon digital press, as well as a Karat 46 Plus digital imaging press.

The equipment, which was installed by Encore Machinery of Dunstable (UK) follows McGowan's move to brand new, 55,000 square foot premises in Dublin.

McGowan's Print chief executive officer, Malcolm McGowan, first saw the equipment, when it was launched at Digital Print World in London.

He said: "I ordered it whilst I was on the stand because it immediately solved a big problem for us.

We were using a stand-alone, medium speed digital creaser and an SRA3 folder.

All jobs above SRA3 size were folded by hand and this was time consuming and labour intensive.

Now we can score and fold much quicker with no double handling." The Pit Stop creaser operates at 8,000 sheets an hour, which is claimed to be the fastest on the market.

It uses separate pumps for suction and blow, which contribute to its high speed, said Encore Machinery.

The MB folder, with the 900mm register table, folds stocks up to one metre long by 380mm wide and up to 350gsm in weight.

The four-plate folder gives flexibility so that jobs can be folded either way on the crease.

A pulsed delivery table ensures good delivery of all types of difficult stock, added the company.

McGowan added: "It gives us the ability to score and fold landscape format, six page leaflets, which are popular with estate agents, whereas previously we had to finish them by hand." The new finishing equipment handles on average 40 jobs a day from forty to 2,000 page booklets.

McGowan explained: "It's giving us litho speed, litho capacity and a very high quality professional finish.

I thoroughly recommend it.

It has been money well spent.".
