Inserter's Linear Flow Means No Direction Change
Encore Machinery has claimed that the MB Autoset 18 fully-automatic inserting system garnered several orders from high volume inserting users when it was shown at Drupa 2008.
Based on a linear flow of documents with no change of direction from the feeding system to the enveloping station and, in line with MB's philosophy, all settings are controlled from a touch screen.
It can offer suction, rotary and friction feeder combinations, together with the claimed flexibility to handle a variety of stocks for the transactional mailing sector.
Encore Machinery claimed that the Autoset 18 can handle management information and an optional interface transfers data from the machine to a PC, allowing production speeds and output levels to be analysed.
The company added that such job monitoring is also useful for isolating problems on the inserting line, whilst there is also a screen to monitor every servo-motor on the machine.
The system displays their load and running time, so if there is a tight bearing somewhere, it can be located.
The Autoset has a choice of paper feeders, which are not to be confused with the feeders on the inserting machine, said Encore Machinery.
The MB System 432 is designed for collecting and folding and can include a cutter for continuous forms, or a cut sheet pre-loader.
The MB 426 is for paper that does not require folding.
It can have a cutter or the 904 on-line system, which slits and merges documents.
Envelope size changes are automated by entering the dimensions and then the control unit calculates the position for the envelope feeder and the enveloping and sealing stations are automatically set up.
The envelopes are delivered vertically in to the on-edge-stacker, which is not only claimed to save space, but it also extends the capacity and increases the interval periods between envelope removals with no need to jog them.
The Autoset has fault diagnostics, which are displayed on the screen as icons or in plain language.
The operator is alerted in advance when the number of envelopes or inserts falls below the minimum quantity.
A jam or fault is highlighted on screen by a diagram with a red ring around the fault area and that particular guard will open.
An optional kicker device can identify postcode breaks, helping the off-loading and sorting of envelopes.
Further optional devices include a collector, lay down station, an inkjet unit, multiple diverts, postage meter modules and loading modules for feeding system.
Mike Biggs, managing director of Encore Machinery, MB's UK distributor, said: "Since its launch, there are now over 40 installations worldwide.
The main features of the Autoset 18 are high 'on the belt output' up to 18,000 cycles an hour and exceptionally low maintenance requirements." Encore's sales manger, Paul Davidson, added: "If bank statement goes through and is in four sections, the machine can be told by a database that the consumer is interested in golf, motor sport and fishing, so it will take from feeders one, three and seven accordingly and insert them with the statement, complementing the growing demand in personalised mailing.".
