Encore supplies Mask with Pit Stop FM creaser

An Encore Machinery product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Oct 23, 2008

Encore Machinery has announced that Mask Documents has installed a high speed Pit Stop FM digital creaser with perforator and an on-line punching tool supplied by Encore.

Historically the company produced perfect bound financial documents but there has been an increase in stitched work, which requires creasing and perforating.

The company has also a growing market for wire bound documents.

Julian Mason, a director of Mask Documents, said: 'We wanted to speed up this area of our finishing, so we went to Drupa to see what was available.

'The Pit Stop FM impressed us because it can crease, perforate and punch on the same machine.

'It's also operates at speeds up to 11,000 creases per hour.

'The Pit Stop also has the added advantage of being able to punch holes for wire bound documents.

'This means we can produce three different formats on one machine.

He added: 'The quality of the creasing, dye and punching tool are good.

'All the other digital creaser-perforators we saw operate at slower speeds and none had the on-line punching tool facility.

'Speed is important because we operate a 24-hour facility with five Oce digital printers.

The Pit Stop FM is claimed to handle stock up to 600gsm and a sheet size up to 500mm x 700mm.

The rise and fall platen ensures a high quality crease without cracking.

Mason said: 'The Pit Stop machine is user-friendly and its easy to follow the sequences, which are shown in the window.

He added that the system has also saved Mask time because previously the company had a more manual operation or work of this type was outsourced.

Mason said: 'It used to take us a considerable time to crease 100 covers but now we can do it in less than five minutes.

'Regulations are coming in where more and more proxy cards will need to be perforated.

'We do a lot of this type of work, so we are now prepared to handle the requirements.

'In the next two months Encore will install a two and four hole drill punch, which will also help.
