Magazine Reworking And Stock Management Boost
Specialist magazine part work finisher Pakfin has selected Empirica warehouse management software from Chess Logistics Technology to manage rework projects at its facilities.
While Haymarket more than quadrupled its bandwidth the company paid less than double its existing costs since it opted for pioneering technology Ethernet in the wide area network (WAN) it said.
The solution was supplied by Exponential-e.
Simon Turner, IT operations manager, Haymarket, commented: "While the primary use of this connection is email and web browsing, the new line allows Haymarket to respond to rapidly changing business requirements.
Connectivity is becoming paramount in the process of getting magazines on shelves.
We are receiving more information via the internet, for example from repro houses, providing online and data transfer - removing the time and cost implications of biking proofs between facilities or using other digital channels." It is not just Haymarket's requirements which are changing but the whole media sector, with companies becoming a lot more sophisticated both in the range of jobs they do and also in their needs.
Whilst leased lines provide the necessary capacity they come with a hefty price tag, which is usually out of most companies budget said Exponential-e.
ISDN on the other hand, while it has its uses, has serious limitations and is unable to satisfy current requirements.
Ethernet is a better way to get large amounts of bandwidth for a reasonable cost.
Ethernet technology has been around in the local area network for over 30 years but has only emerged in the wide area network (WAN) in the last few years.
Due to its compatibility with existing communications investments, Ethernet is native to IT applications and therefore Exponential-e was able to integrate it into Haymarket's existing infrastructure.
The result was a massive bandwidth increase with minimum disruption said the company.
