Press Punch System On Show At Ipex 06

An ECRM product story

ECRM Imaging Systems has launched an integrated press punch system.

ECRM Imaging Systems has launched an integrated press punch system.

The built-in press notch punching option is engineered for Mako 4matic users with fully automated slip-sheet removal systems.

Users can choose from either a Bacher (220mm and 425mm) or a Komori punching option (550mm).

The hardware option is said to support up to four different dies, though it can also be disabled on the fly to support non-notching presses.

ECRM will be exhibiting the new punch system for the first time at the Ipex 2006 show - stand 07-B44.

The patent pending system employs precision image drives that move the plate, rather than the dies.

This allows ECRM to achieve precision accuracy up to plus or minus 10microns.

The plate punch upgrade also allows plates to be punched either in a landscape or portrait orientation.

That accommodates landscape and portrait oriented press owners.

The system can also edge register by turning the punch option off.

And users can load plates manually, in the fully automated system, for one-off plate interruption.

The standard option is a two die set, but ECRM is also offering the choice of a four-die set as well.

The punches will accommodate plates with a thickness from 0.15mm to 0.35mm (0.0055" to 0.014").

A chaff disposal system is also provided for the Mako 4matic system for capturing the punched aluminum chads for easy disposal.

Mark Givens, vice president of ECRM, said: "Our customers have demonstrated an increasing demand for automation in just about all facets of commercial prepress and press operation.

Whilst automation is the goal, today's workflows require the necessary flexibility to intercept automation and accommodate the one-off or rushed job.

This approach satisfies those needs by further accelerating plate-production via automation, whilst ensuring production managers maintain control of the process." Field upgrades can be scheduled for Mako 4matic SSRs delivered after January.

Custom punches or configurations are available.

Units delivered before January this year cannot be upgraded to include the punching option.

The Mako 4matic is an automated, full-featured 4-page CTP solution, developed for commercial printers that demand high quality output while maintaining a cost effective operation.

The MAKO 4matic provides a simple and easy transition to CTP production, with no compromise on quality or reliability.

The MAKO 4matic delivers productivity and reliability by using a straight-through plate path with no complex load/unload cycle.

MAKO 4matic has been developed for print shops where flexibility in production is essential.

The Mako 4matic is said to be able to accommodate any plate size between 15.15" x 11.4" (385mm x 290mm) and 25.0" x 36.5" (635mm x 927mm).

The largest format provides space for oversized jobs such as six-page gatefolds, with all printers' marks and colour bars in position.

Both cassette and pin bar can be changed in minutes to accommodate different plate sizes or press registration systems.

The plate cassette can hold 60 - 12 gauge (0.012" or 0.3mm) plates, 80 - 8 gauge (0.008" or 0.2mm) plates, or 100 - 6 gauge (0.006" or 0.15mm).
