ECRM Imaging Systems has installed its 1,000th computer-to-plate (CTP) device at Goodway Graphics in Burlington, Massachusetts (USA).
Violet Laser CTP Handles Processless Plates
ECRM Imaging Systems will exhibit violet CTP imaging technology at the Graphics of the Americas tradeshow from February 3-5, at the Miami Beach Convention Centre (USA).
These plates reportedly require at least a 30mW violet-diode laser for exposure, whilst ECRM CTP machines are delivered with a standard 60mW laser.
The processless plates from Fuji and Citiplate reportedly will require higher powered lasers, said ECRM.
The company added that the next generation of violet diodes offering higher power intensity is being developed by suppliers such as Nichia, Sanyo and Toshiba and should be available by the time these violet chemistry-free plates are in full production.
The higher powered lasers will be offered to ECRM customers, via a field upgrade kit, for the use with the new Fuji and Citiplate chemistry-free plates.
Rick Black, ECRM's president, said: "We congratulate Agfa, Fuji and Citiplate for their decision to enhance the value of violet-based CTP technologies via chemistry-free plates.
Printers are acutely focused upon productivity and profitability issues.
The introduction of a chemistry-free media must maintain or improve current production throughput, as well as reduce the existing plate processing cost." He added: "Products that increase the value of violet CTP technologies are not only in keeping with ECRM's strategic vision, but are good for our customers.
We will continue to work closely with all major plate suppliers to ensure that our platesetters will always image the latest media technologies, including violet chemistry-free plates.".
