Sheaf Graphics, an established ECRM user, has operated an ECRM VRL 36 imagesetter since 1999, depending on its reliability and quality to service local clients.
A keen eye on local issues has enabled Sheaf to operate in a satisfying niche - providing print solutions to community based clients and campaigning groups, which has in turn provided the company with the connections to take on bigger projects, including printing local books and working for some of Sheffield's Members of Parliament.

ECRM Imaging Systems has launched an integrated press punch system.
Terry Cooper, managing director of Sheaf, explains the move to CTP, "Watching trends in both the UK and Europe, it was obvious that we had to make a considered investment in our business, if we were to maintain our high standards and continue to exceed client expectations.
After visiting ECRM at IPEX and carrying out in-depth research, it became clear that the Mako 2 was best suited to our requirements," he said.
In fact, Sheaf had almost decided on a polyester SRA3 CTP device, but a product capable of A2 output, such as the Mako 2, offered higher efficiencies.
Cooper continued: "We have an A2 press which we did not use very often, as we had to outsource the film.
This took time, so we tended to push jobs onto our two-colour A3 press.
The Mako 2 will have a profound affect on our production performance as it opens up our full potential.
Early indications are very positive, for instance, one day we output 17 A2 plates in less than an hour.
This is the productivity we need to keep up with the A2 press when we are doing short-run work.
As a result we are becoming increasingly competitive in this area." The Mako 2 provides a simple and easy transition to CTP production with digital workflow options that can be configured to suit a variety of production environments.
With a selection of resolutions, a choice of manual or semi-automatic operation and simple operation, the Mako 2 CTP system is perfectly suited to many commercial printing applications.
