Ogden Newspapers on the USA is to install 12 Mako Newsmatic 250 platesetters from ECRM by the end of this year.

ECRM's partner, Southern Lithoplate (SLP) will provide the system installation, integration and continuing service and support for the violet-laser newspaper CTP platesetters Said to be suitable for all popular single-width newspaper presses, from Berliner to Goss, the Mako Newsmatic is also claimed to accommodate the widest range of web widths up to a maximum format of 635mm x 927mm (25" x 36.5")

According to ECRM, the fully-automated system provides enhanced levels of simplicity, versatility and economy and is suitable for the transition to unattended CTP production for newspapers.

The Mako Newsatic is part of a range of automated CTP systems for newspapers that is claimed to produce from 60 to 150 broadsheet plates per hour.

ECRM's plate cassette and trolley is said to hold up to 340 eight-gauge (0.2mm) plates or 250 12-gauge (0.3mm) plates at any time.

By designing a straight-through plate path, complex load and unload cycles have been eliminated.

Using ECRM's patented Flex-Arm slip sheet removal system, sensors track slip sheets through pick-up, removal and disposal, for what is claimed to be fast throughput and reliability.

The optical configuration of the system includes eight resolutions from 1,016 dots per inch (dpi) to 2,540dpi and three anamorphic resolution sets (1,016dpi x 2,032dpi, 1,200dpi x 2,400dpi and 1,270dpi x 2,540 dpi).

SLP's ECRM offering is in tandem with the company's Tiger V violet lithoplate, which was unveiled at Nexpo 2008 last April.

Tiger V violet CTP plates are targeted at North American newspapers and are claimed to provide two per cent - 98 per cent dot resolution and up to 175 lines per inch at 2,450 dots per inch image quality.

A fourth-generation, family-owned company, Ogden Newspapers is a diversified media corporation that publishes 40 daily newspapers, several magazines, weekly newspapers and shoppers in 12 states from Florida to upstate New York and as far west as Maui, Hawaii.

An affiliated company in Topeka, Kansas, publishes several rural-lifestyle magazines, including such titles as Grit, Capper's and Mother Earth News.
