Esko-Graphics is installing its 500th Cyrel Digital Imager (CDI) at Rudolf Reproflex GmbH and Co KG in Goslar The pre-press company Rudolf Reproflex has successfully installed three Cyrel Digital Imager Compact (CDI) platesetters and also invested in a CDI Advance system with 16 mW laser technology

"We have invested in four Esko-Graphics platesetters as we considered the CDI Advance to be the ideal solution for high demanding flexo applications, especially flexible packaging and corrugated carton.

This investment has allowed us to increase our printing capacity and thus helped us to grow our business and enter new markets," explained Andreas Rudolf, chief executive officer of Rudolf Repoflex in Goslar.

Rudolf Reproflex is an integral part of Matthews International, a pre-press company in both the European and American market.

Matthews Europe has installed several CDI's in most of its branches.

During Drupa 2004, Esko-Graphics sold over 35 flexo platesetters, sustaining a claimed 75 per cent market share the CDI has had since its introduction in 1995.

The CDI family of platesetters, said to be the world's first digital imagers for flexo plates, is now installed and operating in 500 plants worldwide.

About 90 per cent of all digital flexo plates globally are imaged on an Esko-Graphics CDI flexo platesetter.

The demand for flexo-related packaging is growing due to an increase in quality, reliability and consistency with CDI technology claimed the company.

"This 500th CDI installation is a milestone in CDI history and rewards our efforts in developing the fastest flexo plate imager in the industry.

We introduced new and innovative features, including improved optics, semi-automatic plate loading, easier sleeve imaging, and updated Grapholas flexo software to increase the CDI's productivity and ease of use," commented Jurgen Andresen, Esko-Graphics packaging hardware director.

Esko-Graphics said doubled the productivity of CDI Advance with the introduction of Optics 80, an enhanced version of the CDI's optical technology, claimed to be capable of imaging eight square meters of plate per hour, whilst providing seamless and variable resolution imaging.
