Workflow & Digital Print Tie-Up For Packaging

Scitex Vision and Esko-Graphics have announced a collaboration in providing packaging and display printers with a claimed first for producing wide format digital short run packaging and displays.

Scitex Vision and Esko-Graphics have announced a collaboration in providing packaging and display printers with what the companies have claimed is the first end-to-end system for producing wide format digital short run packaging and displays.

Scitex Vision Corjet Premium customers have the ability to choose an end-to-end system driven by Esko-Graphics' Scope workflow and where printed output is digitally converted by Esko-Graphics' Kongsberg converting tables.

The Corjet Premium industrial digital printer is claimed by Scitex to be the leading wide format digital printer for corrugated materials, optimised for short run packaging and display applications.

Conceived as a completely automated industrial production system, from front-end to print delivery, the Corjet Premium has been designed to be integrated into existing industrial printing workflows.

The press is claimed to deliver full sheets up to 63" x 126" (160cm x 320cm) and up to 0.39" (10mm) thick, at 1,614 square feet per hour (150 square metres per hour) yielding up to 29 full format sheets per hour in three different printing modes.

The 600dpi high-resolution, piezoelectric drop-on-demand inkjet press utilises unique Aprion technology.

It uses four (optional six) process colours of fast drying water-based, abrasion resistant, waterproof-pigmented inks.

The inks have received environmental certification and approval for use on food packaging in the EU and the USA.

The image is produced direct-to-sheet without impact to the surface.

Esko-Graphics' Scope workflow suite is designed for packaging service providers.

It covers a range of functions, from job and product specification, through graphic and structural design and pre-production operations, to output for printing and converting.

The collaboration with Scitex Vision will enable packaging and display producers to use a single pre-press system to drive both their conventional systems as well as the Corjet Premium.

By fully integrating structural design and graphical design, Scope can seamlessly control the converting of the printed materials on Esko-Graphics' Kongsberg DCM digital converting system that allows unattended digital cutting and creasing of up to 400 large format sheets it is claimed.

Scope workflow is said to be designed for producing sophisticated packages and POP displays.
