Esko will showcase its I-cut vision control system and I-script workflow system integrated with the Esko Kongsberg i-XL24 at Sign UK, held in Birmingham (UK) at the NEC from May 1 - 3 The adoption of flatbed digital printing in the sign, display and POP sectors has expanded creative design possibilities and placed a greater emphasis on digital finishing systems, said Esko

Esko's i-XL Kongsberg series is claimed to complement digital printing of signs and displays by providing a finishing system for a range of materials, providing automation, high productivity and precision.

Sales enquiries for Esko's finishing tables have increased and the company has appointed Robert Horne as distributor to join Mill Pond Graphics which has been selling the i-XL Kongsberg series and Esko's full range of pre-production systems in the UK since January 2006.

The Esko Kongsberg i-XL finishing tables are claimed to have features that save time and boost quality.

Targeted materials include plywood, acrylics, polycarbonates, Dibond, rigid PVC, wood, corrugated cardboard and high pressure laminates.

During Sign UK, Esko will demonstrate the upgraded I-cut 6.2, the Vision control system and I-script workflow that generates registration and direct control for die-less cutting contours to match printed images.

The I-cut camera is claimed to measure each printed object using register marks to define the position and to compensate for any dimensional changes, distortions or material variations, such as shrinkage or stretching.

Paul Bates, Esko's regional manager for the UK, commented: "The robust growth in the sign and display market is driven by companies with leading edge creative design and the capabilities to bring their ideas to fruition.

Esko's market leading technologies make sure that these companies are able to tap in to new opportunities and benefit from added value finishing solutions." Bates noted that the design trends in display graphics have fueled demand for the Kongsberg and he added: "The Kongsberg I-XL range is an ideal investment for the wide format digital printer who is looking for a profitable finishing system.

The finishing tables' versatility and productivity enables printers to win new business in the sign and display marketplace.

Mill Pond Graphics was the most successful new I-XL dealer last year and, combined with the presence of Robert Horne, Esko has high hopes for the UK Sign and Display markets." At Sign UK Esko will also highlight Scope, the company's packaging software suite.

Scope is the core of Esko's system to turn the packaging supply chain - from brand owner to retailer - in to a straight forward collaborative process.

Esko will demonstrate how Scope effectively manages a range of functions, from job and product specification, through graphic and structural design and expert pre-production operations, said the company.

For example, Scope's Deskpack tools harness the power of the desktop for display design, turning Adobe Illustrator seats in to fully-featured Backstage clients, enabling CAD layouts to be imported in to designs and to view designs interactively in realistic 3D, it is claimed.

Fully completed files can be sent directly to Flexrip for output.

ArtiosCAD version 7, Esko's latest component for structural design, is said to provide full import and export support for Solidworks 3D CAD files.

Complete 3D CAD integration allows for quick prototyping of designs and presentations, eliminating communication errors and reducing design review cycles, said Esko.

The ArtiosCAD 7 software is also claimed to provide a series of specifications for a selection of materials, such as corrugated board, plastics and, foam, for instance.

The new 3D export formats for the creation of presentations and assembly drawings contain animations and background illustrations.
