Extensis has formed a technology partnership with Equilibrium, a provider of automation software for rich media distribution.

Following Extensis' capital investment in Equilibrium last April, the development is the first strategic technology partnership between Extensis' Portfolio digital asset management product line and Equilibrium's Mediarich range In the partnership, Extensis will OEM Equilibrium's Mediarich engine for integration in to a future release of Extensis' Portfolio Server

The company said that the agreement extends Extensis' commitment to the digital asset management market through continued product development and greater overall product utility.

Equilibrium's Mediarich media asset engine offers Portfolio users the ability to automate image, animation, sound and digital video production, it is claimed.

Brian Berson, Extensis' general manager, said: "Integrating Equilibrium's powerful and rich media asset engine in to our digital asset management system will strengthen Portfolio's capabilities to provide rich media on-demand for our customers' evolving needs.

Mediarich will offer a more stable, scalable and faster system, whilst providing overall improved imaging capabilities from Portfolio.

it will also add robust accelerated support of new file types and self-service media processing capabilities in the future." Sean Barger, the chief executive officer of Equilibrium, commented: "We invested over two hundred man-years of research and development in Mediarich and it will help expand the functions of Portfolio so that current and new customers will gain significant benefits.".
