An Extensis Products Group product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Jun 22, 2009

Extensis has introduced the Universal Type Server 2.0 font-management software upgrade for Macintosh and Windows operating systems.

The upgrade is available in two different versions - Professional for workgroups of any size and Lite for teams of up to 10 concurrent users.

Universal Type Server 2.0 Professional is a server-based font-management software that offers secure integration with Microsoft's Active Directory and Apple's Open Directory, with full support for Kerberos single sign-on.

Some of the new features in Universal Type Server 2.0 include secure integration with Active Directory and Open Directory for user management, which, for a limited time, is without charge for new and current customers.

The external database module supports Microsoft SQL Server for scalability.

Universal Type Server 2.0 Professional makes it possible to manage user system fonts with a system font policy, including the ability to remove unlicensed fonts, while the upgraded software provides font previews with a 'tear-off' function.

Universal Type Server 2.0 also provides batch-apply user settings in administration, while users can remotely deploy server connection settings to clients.

It features enhanced font corruption handling, the ability to override system fonts in the client and added search criteria for better visibility.

David Aufox, network operations manager at Louise Blouin Media, said: 'We've been really happy with Universal Type Server and especially with Extensis's quick response to customer needs.

'The new active directory integration with single sign-on function is extremely important in our deadline-driven environment.

'The font licensing and reporting capabilities give us the control we need to ensure we remain fully compliant with our fonts.
