Flexographic reproduction specialist Connect Digital Imaging has boosted its digital proofing division with the installation the Kodak Approval NX digital colour imaging system.

Flexographic reproduction specialist Connect Digital Imaging has boosted its digital proofing division with the installation the Kodak Approval NX digital colour imaging system The new high-end digital halftone proofing device has replaced an analogue proofing machine and in doing so has doubled the company's productivity and increased automation and colour accuracy

Dave Piercy, the production director at Connect Digital Imaging said: "We were looking for a proofing system that could achieve brand consistency across complex designs, colours, processes and substrates.

In addition, we also wanted a system that could produce contract quality packaging proofs so precise, they matched the quality of printed output from a press.

After detailed research, Kodak's Approval NX was the solution which ticked all of our boxes.

We can now present our customers with high quality proofs, which mimic the printed result, enabling them to view a printed product as it would sit on the shelf." Approval NX incorporates rapid recipe colour technology to enhance productivity for the creation of millions of spot, corporate and PMS colours.

To generate the exact appearance of the final printed product, the proofer will image on to a number of different substrates including paper, card, board stock, plastics, metals and flexible packaging materials without affecting speed or quality, claimed Kodak.

In the company's opinion, that makes the Approval NX system suitable to the specific demands of corporate and brand identity work, as brand owners can evaluate exactly what the printed pack will look like in advance of printing.

Piercy said: "A large proportion of the work we produce is flexible packaging proofs for leading supermarkets.

Therefore, consistent, reproducible results are a must.

Approval NX simulates flexographic reproduction, enabling us to accurately and quickly print metallics and spot colours on to substrates such as clear film and white OPP.

It is also extremely positive that our clients have fully embraced the new system and are extremely pleased with the results." He continued: "Approval NX has only been installed for couple of months and in this time we have seen a huge impact on our business.

In fact, we have been so impressed with the both the quality of the product and the professional service we have received from Kodak, that I can foresee a very positive working relationship moving forward." Connect Digital Imaging is based in Pilsworth near Manchester (UK) and employs 38 staff and specialises in pre-press production, digital proofing, flexographic platemaking, design and artwork.

Other existing equipment includes the Kodak Thermoflex II flexographic CTP platesetter, Esko-Graphics' colour management technology and its own dedicated management information system (MIS).
