Kodak's flexo printing system's technology award
Kodak's Flexcel NX digital flexographic system is one of 10 products to win a PIA/GATF Intertech Technology Award.
The showcased products range from new proofing and wide-format printing systems to printers and workflow software and visitors will get their first look at the new Nexpress 2100 Plus digital colour press, featuring a modular platform designed to grow as a user's business expands.
The Nexpress 2100 Plus has modular design from which print providers will benefit, providing them more productivity options and allowing them to adapt to changing requirements as they grow their businesses.
The new press includes various paper feeder configurations and a new high-capacity delivery system for more paper capacity and increased productivity, more processing power on the scaleable Nexstation IV front end for greater performance and the optional Nexpress fifth imaging unit for spot colours, watermarking and protective coating, as well as glossing in combination with the Nexglosser glossing unit, said Kodak.

University's Digital Print Strengthens Mailings
The University of Surrey is claimed to have become the first UK higher education establishment to benefit from Kodak Graphic Communications Group's (GCG) Nexpress 2100 digital colour press.
New Server Technology Serves High Volume Needs
The introduction of a new Creo Color Server system has been made by Print On Demand Solutions (PODS) Group, an independent unit of Kodak's Graphic Communications Group.
The press also features enhanced substrate capabilities, enabling customers to handle a wider range of applications.
In addition, the latest versions of Kodak software for the Nexpress 2100 for web-to-print, variable data printing and photographic applications, as well as JDF integration with offset workflows such as Kodak's Prinergy workflow management system will be shown.
The Matchprint inkjet proofer is claimed to be the first DOD proofing system to be based on Kodak-developed software, including screening and calibration technology and a new certified process for colour confirmation.
Based on the same software as the Veris proofer, it is claimed to provide colour accuracy, enhanced image smoothness, quick calibration tools and direct connectivity to Prinergy and Brisque workflows.
Matchprint's colour confirmation checks that the proof was generated according to in-house or industry colour standards, thereby eliminating costly errors before going to press.
It also confirms that the correct profile was used and that the proofer was correctly calibrated.
Kodak's 1200i wide-format printing system has new features in output processing, consumable use and colour reproduction.
To speed production of finished prints, a rapid-evaporation drying system improves drying efficiency for instant take-up and faster print-to-lamination time, said the company.
Optimised variable print speeds cover the full spectrum of production needs, from highest quality to highest volume - 2.5 to 20.4 square metres per hour (23 square feet per hour to 220 square feet per hour).
In addition, proprietary intelligent masking technology optimises colour gamut, density and vibrancy without compromising speed.
Intermediate ink reservoirs enable users to consume 100 per cent of their ink, maintaining a constant supply to the print head and allowing bottles to be changed on the fly for uninterrupted printing, said Kodak.
Thermal print heads optimise drop size and enable clean-hands installation during replacement or maintenance.
Finally, the 1200i printer's software suite includes remote monitoring for unattended printing, automated text messaging to communicate job status and supplies, as well as job tracking for profitability management.
The Prinergy Evo PDF processor, is said to be an affordable, easy-to-use workflow system for controlling pre-press, plate and film production and it will also be demonstrated at the show.
Prinergy Evo PDF processor is claimed to increase workflow efficiency and reduce the cost of production by offering flexible connectivity, high-speed processing, high availability and a low cost of ownership.
Version 3.0 of the workflow management system, which is described as a flexible pre-press workflow system to exploit the power of PDF, will also be highlighted at Digital Print World.
The latest features include a new user interface that adds contextual menus, drag-and-drop functions and process controls.
Kodak will also introduce rules-based automation technology, enabling repetitive tasks to be automated to save hundreds of hours of manual work.
The result can be dramatic cost savings and improved input accuracy, said Kodak.
New features include automated impositioning with an embedded Preps software engine, as well as JDF connectivity for unifying offset and digital print workflows.
As with the integration of Kodka's Nexstation front end in to offset workflows.
The Adobe Acrobat plug-ins, PDF Compare and PDF Merge, reduce the risks associated with last minute changes to PDF files.
Signature booklet proofing utilises automation to create a mock-up proof or booklet from an imposition layout.
Kodak will also be demonstrating the Synapse Insite Internet portal with connectivity to the Prinergy workflow management system that facilitates web-based communication between businesses and their customers by streamlining the process of job submission, file-transmission, job-status tracking and on-line collaboration.
At Digital Print World, the remote contract proofing capability of Synapse will also be demonstrated.
The company's Veris proofing device is based on multi-drop array imaging, which steers ink droplets for a true 1500 dots per inch (dpi) x 1500dpi resolution at production speeds.
As a result, Veris proofing device is claimed to offer superior text, linework, vignettes, shadows and highlight detail.
Also on show will be Synapse Eyemedia, which is said to effectively manage and store digital files, enabling advertising agencies, creative staff, publishers and production teams to organise, access and review content conveniently by web access.
Eyemedia integrates with Prinergy to provide a proxy workflow for image replacement and automatic tracking of images used in production.
It also includes reporting capabilities to allow printers the option of billing for those services.
With Eyemedia, printers can provide clients with access to their digital assets, including photographs, illustrations, editorial content and job specifications, whilst customers can access their digital assets quickly and easily to re-use them in new content.
New tools for retrieving images, including flexible metadata and searchable production attributes, increase accuracy in content creation, claimed Kodak.
Synapse Teamworks is a server-based system for sharing and reviewing creative content.
A range of tools for proofing, sharing and viewing content allow Synapse Teamworks to streamline content creation and improve communication.
Printers can also control and manage user access for a secure, collaborative environment, added the company.
Synapse Eyemedia and Teamworks integrate with Synapse Insite Internet portal in to pre-press, offering a web portal connecting end users and production staff to production jobs, asset libraries and project-based content creation.
Eyemedia and Teamworks are said to enable printers to provide a full system for content creation and digital asset management, which also helps printers generate new revenue streams, attract new business and retain customers.
Synapse Eyemedia and Synapse Teamworks will be available in the UK later this year.
