More than 110 delegates from 30 countries attended the pre-press consumables international distributor conference held by Kodak's Graphic Communications Group (GCG).

More than 110 delegates from 30 countries across Eastern and Central Europe, Africa and the Middle East attended the pre-press consumables international distributor conference held by Kodak's Graphic Communications Group (GCG) The three-day event took place at Kodak's Sofia plate manufacturing facility in Bulgaria

The factory is equipped with two plate lines and has benefited from an investment programme in plate manufacturing technology over the past two years.

It is now the main production plant for Kodak's PP3 Positive Printing Plates and Classic Print conventional printing plates.

Falko Niederheide, Sofia plant manager, said: "The conference provided a great opportunity to inform our sales and service partners about the latest developments at Kodak and for them to see for themselves that the quality of the plates we produce at Sofia are second to none.

In fact the substrates and processes are similar to those at our other production sites." And he continued: "Conventional plates are a very important part of Kodak's business.

We focus on improving the quality of these products everyday, as we do with all our products, digital or conventional.

And we put equal effort in to these products as we do in to our digital systems." Delegates were briefed on all the latest updates to Kodak's pre-press product portfolio during the three-day conference and the event also featured a live demonstration of the company's Thermal Direct non-process printing plates being imaged on a Kodak Magnus 400 Platesetter ready for immediate printing on the Sofia plant's test printing press.

Dave Wigfield, Kodak GCG's vice president of sales, EAMER, added: "The response during the conference and the subsequent feedback from our distributors has been extremely positive and is a reflection of the high level of trust that we have developed with them.

In some ways the Sofia factory has been one of our best-kept secrets and as well as informing everyone about the major investment programme there, this event also provided an ideal opportunity to demonstrate how powerful Kodak's total offering in graphic arts is now.

Our distributors are as excited as we are about the opportunities for the future.".
