Applications and techniques that showed customers how to realise the power to grow their businesses with Kodak's systems were popular at the 2006 AIIM On Demand exposition.

Applications and techniques that showed customers how to realise the power to grow their businesses with Kodak's systems were popular at the 2006 AIIM On Demand exposition By the close of the three-day event, sales of Kodak's products had tripled the volume of the company's original projection

"Our focus at AIIM On Demand was helping digital print providers and document management professionals learn ways to achieve greater revenues and productivity," said Jim Langley, president, of Kodak's Graphic Communications Group and senior vice president of Eastman Kodak.

The company said that strong sales of Kodak's Nexpress digital colour presses, Digimaster mono print systems, and Kodak's Directpress DI digital offset systems were bolstered by the company's new Marketmover business development services.

Premier packages that support owners of each system were introduced as part of the Marketmover programme, which is designed to assist customers of various Kodak systems in achieving business growth, said the company.

In addition to sales of continuous inkjet printing systems, an entry level product in the Versamark VT3000 printing system line was introduced.

The claimed 250 feet-per-minute system is said to allow mid-volume print service bureaux, corporate print operations, direct mail houses and commercial printers to take advantage of growing demand for variable data and colour in Transpromo printing.

Kodak launched a number of systems for document management, including the Kodak i1200 and i1300 series scanners for distributed scanning.

The four new models - Kodak i1210 and i1220 scanners for the workgroup market and Kodak i1310 and i1320 scanners for the departmental sector - include claimed features such as high image quality, speed and ease-of-use in a desktop scanner design that has the smallest operational footprint in their respective classes, said Kodak GCG.

In addition to strong sales, Kodak said that its stand attracted a good response to five separate presentations on a range of market trends and products.

Kodak added that it designed the presentations to help customers position themselves for growth.

The benefits of integrating Kodak's electrophotographic, continuous inkjet, direct imaging and offset printing technologies were displayed through a custom application that combined variable data and static printing, said Kodak.

Kodak and Prinova, a document design company, combined to create a welcome kit for a fictitious financial services company.

The materials were produced using the various Kodak systems.

In a demonstration for printers with blended production capability, the new KPrinergy system digital print workflow for the Kodak Nexpress digital colour press was featured.

Available in the Prinergy 3.1 workflow system, the digital print option is said to give graphic communications companies centralised job management of digital print and traditional workflows, such as offset, flexo and gravure.

Along with the Kodak i1200 and i1300 series scanners, other document imaging announcements made at the show included the market availability of the Scan Station 100 network device for the office that enables people to turn paper documents in to digital files for sharing via email, routing to network files, sending to network printers or copiers and saving on portable USB drives.

There was also the launch of Kodak's Digital Archive Services that will provide subscribers a secure digital archive with nearly unlimited storage capacity for their critical business information.

The Kodak i6060 and i6090 check scanners and t6000 Server Software for image archive applications joined the Kodak i6030 Check Scanner, image capture and transmission software, as well as other support and service options for high-speed check scanning and secure archiving to help banks, businesses and government agencies take advantage of the Check 21 Act.

Kodak also announced new software for its i9600 series writers, which features fewer steps in the write-to-film process, improved multi-roll processing, and increased support for international languages, said the company.

Kodak was named one of four finalists in the banking and finance category of ECM (enterprise content management) Connection's 2006 ACE awards.

The awards recognise vendors that are making extra efforts to promote the education and adoption of ECM technology within specific markets beyond their overall horizontal services.

Erwin Schwarzl, the general manager of document imaging and a vice president of Kodak GCG, said: "The significant increase in leads we've taken at this year's AIIM On Demand show proves that our innovative, easy-to-use systems are catching the attention of businesses of all sizes, from the small and medium business market, to large corporations." "Offering choices amongst a range of products for digital printing and document management and the expertise and resources that enable customers to maximise their technology investments, resonated with visitors seeking to expand and enhance their operations," added Langley.
