UK commercial print house Bakes and Lord in Bradford has invested GBP100,000 in new violet CTP technology, in a move to secure a competitive edge in the marketplace The Kodak Violet Print plate is at the heart of the new investment and provides fast imaging, high quality and excellent consistency, said Kodak Graphic Communications Group (GCG)

Bakes and Lord managing director, Neil Woodhead, commetned: "Before this investment, we were using the Kodak Capricorn Excel conventional printing plate, which served us well for seven years.

However, we chose to progress from conventional plate making to violet CTP to achieve greater throughput, fewer errors, reduced wastage and higher image accuracy, which in turn would provide us with faster press make-ready." And he explained: "We chose Kodak's Violet Print plates primarily because of their high imaging speed, combined with cleaner chemical processing.

In addition, violet technology as a whole was a brand new market offering that would set us apart from our competitors - and it has done the trick.

After just six months of using Violet Print plates, we have doubled productivity and our plate making process is cleaner, faster and more accurate than ever before." Kodak said that Violet Print plates provide crisp and clean images and have a long life span of over 200,000 impressions and that they are compatible with all market leading violet platesetters with 30mW laser power or higher and offer fast imaging and processing under a variety of conditions and print applications.

T he new Violet Print plates at Bakes and Lord are being used in conjunction with a Kodak's Compact Violet plate processor.

Continued Woodhead: "We chose to invest in Kodak plates for two reasons - quality and value for money.

The deal was simply unbeatable by the other suppliers we talked to.

What's more, in all the years we've dealt with Kodak we have received excellent service and professional support.

Supplies have always arrived on time and the plate technicians have been extremely helpful." A family run business, Bakes and Lord has been established for 80 years.

It employs 15 staff, houses Heidelberg presses and a comprehensive pre-press and finishing department.
