Kevin Joyce, who has been appointed as chief marketing officer at Kodak's Graphic Communications Group, believes that the printing industry needs to take a fresh look at how it markets itself.
Kodak's flexo printing system's technology award
Kodak's Flexcel NX digital flexographic system is one of 10 products to win a PIA/GATF Intertech Technology Award.
It has three modules for colour transformation of digital image files to provide predictable colour from image capture to print and digital media as well as providing for the proofing and communication of RGB and CMYK files.
Aimed at publishers, pre-press houses and printers who need to capture, view, and reproduce accurate high quality colour for print, it is designed to complement most popular graphic arts software.
The first module features automated conversion to a selected colour space with profiling and conversion camera and scanner software.
It will be available in Summer 2004.
The second module is a colour calibrated viewing and editing workstation with soft-proofing and support for editing images and pages using industry-standard tools, including Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat.
The system is based on KPG's Matchprint virtual proofing system and will be available by the winter of 2004.
Module three is claimed eliminate the risk of font substitution, misinterpretation of page element transparencies, and other problems associated with use of multiple RIPs in a workflow.
It is also said to enable colour accurate page flattening and image and page conversion using presets for printing.
KPG believes that it will be useful for preparing image colours to print in a different process than that for which they were initially intended, such as original lithographic files that can be mapped for gravure printing.
This module will be available in summer 2004.
