Kodak Versamark, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eastman Kodak, today announced that Rotomail has purchased the new high-resolution Kodak Versamark VX5000e printing system introduced at Drupa 2004.

Kodak Versamark, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eastman Kodak, today announced that Rotomail has purchased the new high-resolution Kodak Versamark VX5000e printing system introduced at Drupa 2004 The purchase of the VX5000e, which will be shipped directly from the show floor, makes Rotomail the first company to use the new, high-resolution digital colour technology, said Kodak Versamark

It expands Rotomail's technical foundation that already includes six Versamark digital printing presses.

The new VX5000e marks Rotomail's seventh installation of Kodak Versamark printing systems.

According to Giorgio Albertini, there was no doubt that the VX5000e was the right choice.

"When we saw the VX5000e system, with its crisp image quality, it was an easy decision.

The new VX5000e will allow us to offer high quality, full-colour printing at a very competitive price," said Mr Albertini.

Kodak Versamark believes the new system expands its proven process colour inkjet technology delivering improved text rendition and imaging quality.

It prints at 300dpi x 1200dpi at web speeds of up to 100 metres per minute.

With the new technology, smaller dots critical to image quality are reduced by one-third the current size.

Text edge definition is enhanced by the higher resolution and more compact dots, providing greater legibility for delicate characters at smaller point sizes, it is said.

Text set in four-point type is crisp and clear and the system is said to also print process colour text in two or even three colours.

"We are pleased that Rotomail, industry leader in the high-volume personalised print market, has once again selected a printing solution from Kodak Versamark," said Karl Cerny, vice president and managing director of Kodak Versamark' s European operations.

"This selection is a vote of confidence for our continuous inkjet technology and for our strategic objective of providing the industry a dynamic alternative to offset printing," he added.

Rotomail has a history of moving quickly and decisively to acquire leading edge technology.

Its first Versamark V-series system was acquired shortly after Drupa 2000.

At that time, Rotomail was looking for a solution to increase output speed and throughput for both black-and-white and full-colour documents while minimising costs.

Rotomail's investment in Versamark technology in 2000 enabled the company to tap into the market for producing customised invoices and statements that merge targeted marketing messages with statement and account information.

The result has been a healthy stream of new business and enhanced, continuing client relationships with leading financial institutions, such as Bank Americard, CartaSi, Diners Club, Citibank, JP Morgan, Banca Lombarda and Unicredit Group.

That growth has enabled Rotomail to invest in five additional V-series printers.

Kodak Versamark is exhibiting at Drupa in Hall 5, Stand B24.

In addition to its high-end, V-series systems, the company is also demonstrating new products from its popular D-series and is hosting a variety of software partners.
