500th Kodak Workflow Installation At Sheetfed Firm
Kodak has installed its 500th Prinergy Evo workflow system, which, said Kodak, is its most affordable PDF workflow system for commercial, packaging and newspaper printers.
Ian Walder, managing director at Dorking Litho, said: "Previously, the majority of our business was in stationery and booklet work but a few years ago we made a conscious decision to move in to small and medium run colour work and to this end invested in a five-colour press.
We also planned a move towards processless CTP, as not only did we need a more efficient system, but being environmentally aware, we wanted to get away from the chemicals that go hand in hand with traditional printing." He added: "After evaluating all of the top equipment on the market and receiving excellent support from Kodak, we chose to go with the Kodak Magnus 400 platesetter with autoloader and Kodak's Thermal Direct non-process printing plates.
To back this up at the front end, the Prinergy Evo workflow system was the obvious choice." Walder continued: "We really wanted a flexible, user friendly system for our workflow system and, in fact, we spent far more time looking in to this than we did evaluating the CTP devices.

Platesetter, Workflow Lead To Better Productivity
UK commercial printer, Printhaus, ordered a new Kodak Magnus 800 Quantum platesetter at Drupa 2008, together with a Kodak Prinergy workflow system, version 4.0.
Everything we ordered from Kodak was installed together and even after just a few weeks we are absolutely delighted with the results the Prinergy Evo workflow system is bringing us.
Previously, the pre-press department spent ages altering files that arrived in all sorts of different formats, now this is all automated for us." Sharon Evans, production director at Dorking Litho, added: "Using the Prinergy Evo workflow system has been very exciting for us.
Of course there has been a huge learning curve but the system has made massive differences that include the speed at which we can throughput files and the confidence that there will be no errors on our plates.
We are absolutely delighted with it." The Prinergy Evo is a scaleable system that can grow with customer expansion.
It is a PDF workflow management tool for pre-press, plate or film production that organises page processing, proofing, computer to film and computer to plate, said Kodak.
Equipped to support PDF, JDF and ICC standards, the family of Prinergy workflow system products are claimed to increase efficiency and reduce the cost of production.
Walder explained: "The benefits that the complete Kodak system has brought us include an increase in the quality of our four-colour work, cost savings by moving to processless plates and a huge increase in efficiency stemming from the Prinergy Evo workflow system, with plates now being outputted up to four times more quickly than before." John Ward, product manager for Prinergy Evo workflow software at Kodak's Graphic Communications Group, said: "To reach 1,500 end users so quickly is an excellent endorsement for our Prinergy Evo.
It shows just how rapidly the print world is adopting PDF as the standard and how our systems can help smaller businesses increase efficiency." And Walder commented: "With the Kodak equipment we now have, we are confident that we will be able to save enough money to invest sometime soon in a newer five colour press and expand the business even further." Dorking Litho is a family business that has been in operation for 42 years, during which time it has experienced a lot of change.
Concentrating predominantly on traditional litho printing, in recent years the company has recognised market demand and expanded its services to include fast colour run work.
