New Server Technology Serves High Volume Needs
The introduction of a new Creo Color Server system has been made by Print On Demand Solutions (PODS) Group, an independent unit of Kodak's Graphic Communications Group.
The M700 is claimed to provide the security to migrate to higher volume presses and features as they grow their businesses.
The four-colour press is claimed to run at 70 pages per minute (ppm) for the full range of supported substrate types (coated, uncoated, synthetics and selected offset paper) and weights (64gsm - 300gsm).
Targeted monthly print volumes range from 50,000 to 150,000 A4 pages, added Kodak and the M700 allows simplex and perfecting modes to run at machine rated speed.
It produces output with quality text and graphics, high density, a wide colour gamut and high resolution - 1,200 dots per inch (dpi) x 1,200dpi, it is claimed.
The combination of wax-based dry ink and a dual fusing system is said to yield high impact documents across a range of applications that include marketing material, direct mail, photographs books and business documents.
The Nexpress M700 handles mixed media from five paper feeders accommodating a sheet capacity of 6,000 and it delivers output to a delivery system that holds 6,000 sheets.
The M700 will be available in the United States and Canada initially, added Kodak.
Kodak has also introduced the Nexpress S3000 digital colour press as the new high end production machine in the range.
The company believes that customers have an easy path for growth within the Nexpress platform, from the mid-level M700 to the Nexpress 2100 Plus, 2500 and S3000 colour machines.
The Nexpress S3000 is said to produce 3,000 A3 sheets per hour, or 100 A4 pages per minute, for the full range of supported substrate types, including coated, uncoated, synthetics, standard offset paper and selected packaging board and textured paper, at weights from 60gsm - 350gsm.
Maximum sheet capacity totals 11,000 with targeted monthly print volumes of 450,000 and above, said Kodak.
The company commented that customers wishing to take advantage of speed can choose a new Nexpress 2500 press now with an available upgrade option to the speed of the Nexpress S3000.
The upgrade will be available for installation at the same time as the S3000 systems are available, which is scheduled for October.
The Nexpress 2100 Plus, 2500 and S3000 presses are said to be suitable for customers with the most demanding productivity and volume requirements.
Those systems also offer the optional GATF Intertech award-winning Nexpress Fifth Imaging Unit, which is said to enable a range of applications by providing a wide colour gamut, clear ink capabilities for security, watermarking, or protection, as well as a high gloss finish when used in conjunction with the glosser unit.
Kodak added that the Nexpress range is suitable for customers alternating between offset and digital production because they provide an open workflow, colour matching capabilities and a broad range of offset substrate compatibility.
The Nexstation V front end and Nexstation System Software version 9.0 feature a new operating control system that increases uptime and improves productivity of Nexpress presses, said the company.
The Nexstation front end as part of the Kodak Unified Workflow systems integrates with the company's Prinergy workflow systems and other workflow management systems.
The open architecture makes job acceptance easier and reduces errors by using standard file formats and job ticketing information (PS, PDF, JDF, VDX/PPML).
Kodak also claimed that the Nexstation V front end with Nexstation system software version 9.0 is one of the first workflow systems to include the new Adobe PDF Print Engine for improved, native capability for processing documents with complex transparency features.
In addition, support is now provided for Adobe Acrobat 8.0 PDF files.
The Nextsation software running on the Nexpress 2100 Plus, 2500 and S3000 systems can work with Kodak's Colorflow technology to control, communicate and confirm that the intended colour has been achieved and can be consistently reproduced across multiple devices.
The roll feeder from Lasermax Roll Systems is a productivity enhancer for Nexpress 2500 and S3000 presses.
The in-line roll feeder is claimed to save time, money and labour by providing up to 60,000 A4 sheets per roll for hours of un-interrupted operation.
It increases the efficiency of transactional, book production, direct mail and other high volume workflows.
The choice of front or rear feeding options provides great flexibility in site layout, added Kodak.
To help customers drive growth Nexpress presses, Kodak said that its Marketmover Business Development Services provide sales and marketing support.
Marketmover services combine a team of professionals, resources and a suite of services, including the Marketmover Network.
The addition of the two new presses, new digital front end and new roll feeding capability to the line-up of digital printing systems is claimed to enable print providers to choose the best technology and systems to increase their revenue potential, enhance their productivity and create quality products for their customers.
James Langley, the president of Kodak's Graphic Communications Group and senior vice president of Eastman Kodak Company, said: "Expanding the Nexpress platform enables customers to enter the digital printing market and expand their digital printing businesses.
We're helping customers develop the ideal digital printing system for their individual volume, performance, speed and application requirements." He added: "First time and established digital print providers now have more opportunities to grow their businesses with the expanded Nexpress platform by adding services, enhancing productivity, controlling costs and maximising investments.".
