KPG's Wide-Ranging Drupa Launches

University's Digital Print Strengthens Mailings
The University of Surrey is claimed to have become the first UK higher education establishment to benefit from Kodak Graphic Communications Group's (GCG) Nexpress 2100 digital colour press.
On press, the plate achieves run-lengths of 200,000 impressions without post-baking and in excess of one million impressions when post-baked.
It is suitable for UV inks and renders consistent hard dots and reproduces high resolutions for a dynamic range of 1%-99% at 175lpi.
It also allows users to take advantage of advances in stochastic screening.
The company will also introduce a new entry-level thermal CTP system.
Designed to allow small-to-medium sized customers to invest in a competitively priced, fully-integrated system.
It will be initially available in Asia Pacific, Latin America, the United States and Canada.
Its principal components are a multi-featured ROOM (Rip Once Output Many) workflow and a market-proven, cost competitive thermal CTP device from Screen, the PT-R4100.
It also includes a server and an inkjet proofing device.
KPG will introduce an upgraded version of the Matchprint Professional Server IIc, version 3.2.
This upgrade features a Kanji graphical user interface and double-byte (CID), third-party font downloader support to service customers in Japan and the Far East.
As a further digital output option, KPG will show its existing direct imaging Directpress 5034 DI.
It is currently distributed in North America.
In flexographic packaging, KPG will show a new CTP plate, the KPG Flexcel NX.
It is said to delivers superior resolution and excellent colour reproduction on any packaging substrate, from thin polypropylene to thick corrugated board.
The plate - with wide exposure latitude and short drying times - is compatible with CTP devices with a sensitivity range of 830nm to 1064nm and can run on press with alcohol, water-based and UV inks.
There are three more versions of the plate for flexible packaging, label and tag, folding carton, corrugated, envelope and wide web paper.
