Adopt far reaching marketing to redefine printing
Kevin Joyce, who has been appointed as chief marketing officer at Kodak's Graphic Communications Group, believes that the printing industry needs to take a fresh look at how it markets itself.
Given that proof approval has traditionally been time consuming, eliminating hours from our production workflow has meant we have tightened up our business offering and in doing so have provided our customers with an enhanced service.
A Real Time Proof utilises patented pixels-on-demand image streamlining, we can work with full resolution files which presents us with a complete solution." By enabling customers such as EMAP Automotive to approve documents electronically using a web browser and free downloadable viewer, A T Graphics could now pick up the telephone and make immediate annotations on screen to a document.
Tipping added: "This makes a massive difference to the way we work with our customers and ensures any modifications are dealt with straightaway.
Because of the use of web applications the other benefit of the Real Time Proof for our customers is that there's no cost to use it - we see our investment as something that can only benefit our customers' business operations.
For customers such as EMAP Automotive, Real Time Proof is now a fundamental part of how we work together." Anthony Stone, EMAP Automotive's production manager, who is responsible for seven of the group's 20 automotive titles stressed that KPG's proofing manages the complete proof approval process, ensuring EMAP customers also receive electronic copies of proofs.
He said: "It has given us a solution that makes our production workflow simple - to reduce job approval from two days to two hours has been more than significant for us.
There are no longer the same demands which come with hardcopy proofs, instead we have an electronic process which means we can pass through jobs quickly but without compromising on quality.
Our customers are also reaping benefits from the proofing chain - they now receive proofs electronically via Real Time Proof, which means an end to black and white faxed copies that can be hard to read and provide little similarity to a job which is ready for sign-off." EMAP plans to roll out the new electronic proofing process for all of its titles.
Stone continued: "We've now had access to Real Time Proof for three months and as more of our staff are trained to use it, we will begin to see the need for receiving hardcopy proofs decline.
We hope that by the end of the year the system will have been integrated with all EMAP Automotive's 17 titles, which means we will be fully automated when it comes to approving all work from A T Graphics.".
