Digital Colour Press Most Productive On
Market
What is claimed to be the most productive cut sheet press for the commercial printing market available has been announced by Kodak Graphic Communications Group.
Designed to maintain the high volume throughput of multiple small run jobs, the Nexpress S3000 digital colour press is claimed to support a range of substrates, providing 3,000 A3+ 4/0 or 5/0 sheets per hour (100 A4 pages per minute) Kodak said that the Nexpress S3000's design enables it to maintain its speed across any 60gsm - 350gsm substrate (coated, uncoated, synthetics, standard offset paper and selected packaging board, as well as textured paper) with a duty cycle of 2.2 million pages per month

Adopt far reaching marketing to redefine printing
Kevin Joyce, who has been appointed as chief marketing officer at Kodak's Graphic Communications Group, believes that the printing industry needs to take a fresh look at how it markets itself.
Four feeders with a total capacity of 11,000 sheets, combined with an optional roll feeder, enables the press to provide uninterrupted printing, claimed the company.
Will Mansfield, marketing director of digital printing systems for Kodak's GCG EAMER, commented: "The Nexpress S3000 press will enable our customers to achieve an even greater throughput capacity than they have previously experienced, a huge benefit for all companies wishing to grow their business rapidly.
The digital printing market is currently experiencing double digit growth rates and customers are looking for productive five color printing systems with glossing, water-marking and coating options." And he added: "With the Nexpress Fifth Imaging Unit and the S3000 press we are ideally positioned to offer that.

University's Digital Print Strengthens Mailings
The University of Surrey is claimed to have become the first UK higher education establishment to benefit from Kodak Graphic Communications Group's (GCG) Nexpress 2100 digital colour press.
Some users may not have the need for the extremely high volume throughput the press offers but instead require the fastest possible output for their time sensitive jobs." Mansfield explained that the S3000 will provide fast throughput because of the combination of the machine's printing speeds and the ability of the newly upgraded front end to process the jobs.
On five-colour jobs that can be up to 84 per cent faster than other competing presses on the market.
Kodak commented that as Nexpress presses offer modularity and flexibility, including the additional fifth imaging unit, paper feeders, high-capacity delivery systems and the scaleable Kodak Nexstation front end, there is a path for growth within the range, from 2100 to 2500 to 3000 sheets per hour with in-field speed upgrades.
Customers wishing to take advantage of the speed of the S3000 can buy a new Nexpress 2500 press now with an upgrade option to the speed of the Nexpress S3000 press, which will be available for installation at the same time the S3000 systems are available.
The Nexpress S3000 press is scheduled for availability in October.
Kodak claimed that the S3000 also offers integration in to Kodak's Unified Workflow through the cross-family Nexstation Front End, including common VDP, web-to-print, document assembly and colour management applications.
The Nexstation V Front End and Nexstation System Software version 9.0 comprise a new operating control system that is said to increase uptime and improve productivity for the Nexpress S3000.
The front end as part of the Kodak Unified Workflow integrates with Kodak's Prinergy workflow systems and other workflow management systems.
The open architecture makes job acceptance easier and reduces errors by using standard file formats and job ticketing information (PS, PDF, JDF, VDX/PPML), added the company.
The front end with Nexstation System software version 9.0 is one of the first workflow systems to include the new Adobe PDF print engine for improved, native capability for processing documents with complex transparency features.
In addition, support is now provided for Adobe Acrobat 8.0 PDF files.
The roll feeder from Lasermax Roll Systems is a productivity enhancer for both the Nexpress 2500 and S3000 colour presses.
The in-line roll feeder is said to be able to save time, money and labour by providing up to 60,000 A4 sheets per roll for hours of uninterrupted operation.
It increases the efficiency of transactional, book production, direct mail and other high-volume workflows.
The choice of front or rear feeding options provides great flexibility in site layout.
The S3000, like the 2500, offers integration with the roll feeder, Kodak's Nexglosser Glossing Unit and booklet maker.
