New Server Technology Serves High Volume Needs
The introduction of a new Creo Color Server system has been made by Print On Demand Solutions (PODS) Group, an independent unit of Kodak's Graphic Communications Group.
The Nexpress M700 is claimed to offer customers the security to migrate to higher volume presses and features as they grow their businesses.
The four-colour press runs at a claimed 70 pages per minute (ppm) for the full range of supported substrate types (coated, uncoated, synthetics and selected offset paper) and weights (64gsm - 300gsm).
Targeted monthly print volumes range from 50,000 to 150,000 A4 pages.
Kodak added that the M700 allows simplex and perfecting modes to run at machine rated speed.
It produces output with quality text and graphics, high density, a wide colour gamut and high resolution of 1,200 dots per inch (dpi) x 1,200dpi.
The combination of wax-based dry ink and a dual fusing system yields documents across a range of applications that include marketing material, direct mail, photos books and business documents.
The Nexpress is also said to handle mixed media from five paper feeders accommodating a sheet capacity of 6,000 and provides output to a delivery system that holds 6,000 sheets.
The M700 is now available in the United States and Canada.
Kodak has also introduced the Nexpress S3000 digital colour press as the new high end production machine in the Nexpress range.
It is claimed to produce 3,000 A3 sheets per hour, or 100 A4 pages per minute, for the full range of supported substrate types (coated, uncoated, synthetics, standard offset paper and selected packaging board and textured paper) and weights (60gsm - 350gsm).
Maximum sheet capacity totals 11,000 with targeted monthly print volumes of 450,000 or more.
The company pointed out that customers can buy a new Nexpress 2500 press now with an available upgrade option to the speed of the Nexpress S3000 press.
The upgrade will be available for installation at the same time the S3000 systems are available, which is scheduled for October.
The company added that the Nexpress 2100 Plus, 2500 and S3000 presses also offer the optional GATF Intertech award-winning Nexpress Fifth Imaging Unit, which enables a range of applications by providing a wider colour gamut, clear ink capabilities for security, watermarking, or protection, as well as a high gloss finish when used in conjunction with the glosser unit.
Kodak believes that its Nexpress range is suitable for customers alternating between offset and digital production because they provide an open workflow, colour matching capabilities and a range of offset substrate compatibility.
The Nexstation V front end and Nexstation System Software Version 9.0 comprise a new operating control system that is claimed to increase uptime and improves productivity of Nexpress presses.
Nexstation, as part of the Kodak Unified Workflow Solutions integrates with the company's Prinergy workflow systems and other workflow management products.
The open architecture is said to make job acceptance easier and reduce errors by using standard file formats and job ticketing information (PS, PDF, JDF, VDX/PPML).
Nexstation, with its system software version 9.0 is also said to be one of the first workflow systems to include the new Adobe PDF Print Engine for improved, native capability processing documents with complex transparency features.
In addition, support is now provided for Adobe Acrobat 8.0 PDF files.
Nexstation system software version 9.0 running on the Nexpress 2100 Plus, 2500 and S3000 systems can work with Kodak's Colorflow to control, communicate and confirm that the intended colour has been achieved and can be consistently reproduced across multiple devices.
The roll feeder from Lasermax Roll Systems is a productivity enhancer for Nexpress 2500 and S3000 presses.
The in-line roll feeder is claimed to save time, money and labour by providing up to 60,000 A4 sheets per roll for hours of uninterrupted operation.
It increases the efficiency of transactional, book production, direct mail and other high volume workflows.
James Langley, president of Kodak's Graphic Communications Group (GCG) and senior vice president of Eastman Kodak Company, commented: "Expanding the Nexpress platform of digital colour printing systems enables customers to enter the digital printing market and expand their digital printing business by selecting the Nexpress machine that meets their current business needs and sets them on a course for growth." He added: "By extending the Nexpress range we're helping customers develop the ideal digital printing system for their unique volume, performance, speed and application requirements.
First time and established digital print providers now have more opportunities to grow their businesses with the expanded Nexpress digital colour press range by adding services, enhancing productivity, controlling costs and maximising investments." He explained that the newly-expanded Nexpress range, combined with Kodak's Digimaster Ex production system, launched in October 2006, create a complement of profit generating products and services for print providers to add to their existing offset and digital investments.
