Pack Firms Turn To Kodak Platsetters And
Workflows
With 40 per cent growth Kodak's Thermoflex platesetters and Prinergy Powerpack workflow systems are answering the need for efficiency increases and improvements in colour quality.
Kodak said that sales to printed packaging producers of those systems in 2006 exceeded those in previous years The Thermoflex platesetters, which are available in narrow, mid-format and wide formats, are claimed to give printers and converters imaging quality and process control

The introduction of a new Creo Color Server system has been made by Print On Demand Solutions (PODS) Group, an independent unit of Kodak's Graphic Communications Group.
All devices feature the company's Hyperflex Ready Imaging Technology for flexo.
The Prinergy Powerpack workflow system is claimed to create a predictable and reliable manufacturing process that automates steps, reduces errors and streamlines operations.
The software provides packaging pre-press tools needed to build and pre-flight packaging files.
It also includes a job management feature to track jobs from receipt of files to proofing, approval and platemaking, added Kodak.
Vic Stalam, director of market segments and vice president of packaging products for Kodak's Graphic Communications Group, said: "The package printing industry is growing and competition is increasing.
Our customers are facing business pressures, such as condensed cycle times and increased focus on producing colorful packaging that grabs the consumer's attention." He added: "To exceed these expectations and grow their businesses, these printers are turning to Kodak systems, such as the Thermoflex Platesetter and Prinergy Powerpack to turn pre-press in to a controlled, digital manufacturing process." According to NAPL, productivity improvement in the printing industry has lagged behind the overall non-durable manufacturing sector, growing only half as fast.
To grow revenue and increase profit, packaging printers are looking for consistent, stable, repeatable print that provides high impact results on the store shelf.
The Robinette Company is a flexible packaging and converting manufacturer serving the food, beverage, construction, textile and healthcare markets from its Bristol, Tennessee (USA) base.
The company installed a Thermoflex Platesetter in 2005 to improve productivity.
The company's manager of the graphics division, commented: "We were looking for a digital flexo plate device that offered the best print quality improvements.

Adding it has enabled us to improve the return on investment of our printing business by reducing pre-press turn-around time, bringing jobs up to colour faster with clearer printing and less downtime for plate washing." With the purchase of the Prinergy Powerpack and the Thermoflex Wide CTP platesetter, Hood Packaging in Calgary, Alberta (Canada) is improving efficiency, reducing turn-around times and boosting quality.
As a result, Hood Packaging can better meet the demanding needs of its customers.
