Software Enables Hi-Res On-Screen
Proofing
Kodak's Smart Review System is to be incorporated in Gap Systems' modular Smartflow business process workflow management systems as part of a new distribution agreement.
The Smart Review System integrates Kodak's proprietary imaging and colour technology in to a server-based proofing engine that is claimed to enable high-resolution on-screen proofing Because the server streams just the information that is needed, users can view high-resolution images quickly and easily over any internet connection, added Kodak

Adopt far reaching marketing to redefine printing
Kevin Joyce, who has been appointed as chief marketing officer at Kodak's Graphic Communications Group, believes that the printing industry needs to take a fresh look at how it markets itself.
The Smart Review System is used within the Approve It module of Gap Systems' Smartflow, which is an internet-based workflow system claimed to allow brand owners to securely run projects that involve multiple stakeholders.
The system is customisable through configuration but runs on a standard platform.
Andrew Garnham, sales and marketing director at Gap Systems, explained the rationale behind the development of the system: "We set out to create a highly-configurable system for supply chains that involve lots of different people working on a print project, for example in packaging, point-of-sale and catalogues.

Platesetter, Workflow Lead To Better Productivity

Smartflow is also scaleable, whether the number of projects is low or high - we've designed systems for small workgroups through to large-scale global environments spanning 56 countries." Gap Systems clients include Astra Zeneca, Colgate, Marks and Spencer and Matthews Brand Solutions.
As well as project tracking and artwork centralisation, Smartflow includes secure virtual proofing which is where Kodak's Smart Review System streaming technology is used.
Reviewers and approvers at the client will only see the currently permitted proof and, because the main proof file is held securely on the proofing server, no recipient (unless specifically authorised) has access to the file.
That provides a secure method of collaborative proofing that is simple and fast for users, added the company.
Andrew Garnham commented: "The Kodak technology we are using is the best we've found on the market - it's both quick and easy-to-use.
With our system the project manager at the client can also see the status of all projects, which is a vastly superior way of working than attaching a PDF to an email, which just isn't an adequate solution." Thierry Callot, product marketing manager for portal products at Kodak's Graphic Communications Group, said: "Naturally we are very happy that Gap Systems is integrating our Smart Review System in this way and to hear our technology described in such positive terms.
It proves the effectiveness of our system and the monitor proofing tools provided by Kodak.".
