Kodak has claimed that its Versamark printing systems will top 90 billion mono and colour A4 impressions this year, which is the 40th anniversary of its continuous inkjet printing technology.

The 90 billion impressions landmark will comprise a combination of full page document production, partial page or hybrid printing and address imaging The partial print pages are normalised to an A4 page size of the counting purpose, added Kodak

Kodak commented that its continuous inkjet systems have turned the time intensive production of materials requiring personalised data, including direct mail, transactional documents, lottery tickets and business forms, in to an efficient process.

Based on existing and future technology, as well as the growth of Transpromo - the ability to add promotional messages to standard monthly customer bills and statements - and other new printed communication tools, Kodak said that it anticipates that breaking the 100 billion A4 impressions per year barrier is not far off.

Isidre Rosello, general manager of transaction and industrial solutions and vice president of Kodak's Graphic Communications Group and vice president of Eastman Kodak, explained: "Reaching this mark reflects our long standing commitment of offering scaleable and modular continuous inkjet printing systems that allow customers to upgrade and add features as their needs develop.

For example, by making it easy to add colour capabilities to monochrome systems, we're helping print providers take advantage of new opportunities with transactional documents and other applications." And Pat McGrew, Kodak's data centre and transaction segment specialist, added: "More applications and techniques are being discovered and refined for high speed continuous inkjet printing, driven by the increased use of process colour and personalised data to provide high impact messages that drive results.".
